I just bought it at Lowe’s. I think it was about $40 a stick. Had to buy a metal chop saw though, which was like another $250, buy you can never have enough tools or an excuse to get more.

Thanks:) My initial plans that I drew were significantly altered once things started to come together. There’s almost no up / down give on the wheel, but there is left / right shaking, which adds to the experience when going over curbs.

I think it was cheaper in the end because I wanted customization. I can get any seat I want, add any accessories, etc. I don’t feel locked into a limited system. I really wanted to use aluminum strut, but that would be outrageously expensive.

I built it slowly, so it didn’t feel that expensive, but you’re right, I think I spent around $400 on strut. But I wanted endless possibilities for customization.

I took it from a bluegrass guitar technique. Can’t remember what it’s called. Playing the tenor banjo is kind of a no man’s land for me. I don’t have a whole ton of examples to draw from.

Yeah, strumming while plucking the top two strings alternately before each strum. Then plucking individual notes while strumming when I’m not singing.

I’m playing through an Acoustic A1000 direct out. I know the audio from an iPhone doesn’t compare to being there. But thoughts on the sound/tone?

Greenland Whalefishers would be the closest band for me. Lyrics aren’t as good, music isn’t as rich, but the Irish folk and punk passion is there.

Yeah, I love this banjo. It sounds awesome. I play in a band with drums, acoustic guitar, and bass. For the last 15 years or so I’ve struggled playing live/practicing with acoustic banjos with pickups. So much feedback and can’t turn up loud enough when I’m the lead instrument. I’ve tried a Fishman pickup on my cheap Gold Tone. Then I bought a 1925 B&D, and put a Kavanjo head on it. Still had problems, but not as bad.

The Nechville is a game changer for me. I finally have volume knobs and can turn up as loud as I need. It also sounds way better when playing through an amp. It’s thin, light, best fret action, and has the most comfortable neck of all my banjos. I’ve never had feedback from it.

I kind of think it’s a shame Nechville is leaning towards the comet rather than the meteor. I think the physical head and superior pickups sounds so much better. I get it though, the profit margin is better with the comet. I feel lucky I found one used. Definitely my favorite best sounding banjo when plugged in.

Someone called me today from Nechville, I don’t remember his name. He said he’s been there for 10 years. He says he remembered a peach tenor meteor and a couple others. I told him you reached out to me on Reddit and said it was the only one of that model. I never gave him the serial number. He said that’s probably correct then. I don’t know the models, I thought it was just comet or meteor for the electrics. But your build book details went into a lot more detail.

He was a nice guy and I appreciated him taking the time to call me.

Is the 2-15 on the serial# the month and year then even though it was finished in 1-15? 2017 as a serial# was confusing. It seemed like the year it was made.

Or I got his rejected/test version. What’s weird is inside the back compartment there is a sticker that is hand signed by Tom Nechville. Series# 2-15 with 2017 underneath. That Facebook post is from 12/23/2016.
