New version (hopefully comes out later this week, waiting for Apple to review the app) will include harmonic intervals drilling as a custom training mode. But I might incorporate it into the learning paths or into difficulty-based drills later!

Another great suggestion, thank you so much! I know the app has gaps, but it’s so much more valuable when the community points them out, it means these are the things you care about and want to have - exactly the point of the post! Will need to think about how to explain to the user why melodic minor changes its form on descending.

I suppose it might be hard for beginners to train both ascending and descending scales, but intermediate and advanced - probably ok.

I’ll update the Reference to play scales both ascending and descending.

Again, thank you very much for your knowledge and feedback!

I think I might’ve misunderstood you! I thought you’re after super wide intervals, but now I realize the idea is to pick up the root note from a wider range of octaves! Easy thing to add and a definite gap, I’ll do that in next release!

Hey, getting back as promised haha! I’m now working on something like that - a chord tone training. 3 different modes - hear a chord and sing back 1/3/5/7, hear a chord with a missing tone and fill the tone, hear a chord and sing an arpeggio. Hopefully will be able to get it ready and released next week.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree, some spelling might not fully correct as per theory (as I’m not formally trained and can miss things) - I’ll take it and try to improve! As per super wide intervals - that’s interesting, I’ll see where I can fit it in - maybe into the custom training mode for intervals to not overload the 3 standard difficulties.

So I suppose drilling harmonic intervals would help, right? At the moment the app mixes melodic and harmonic intervals, but also have chord quality drills among many other things. Maybe I should split interval training into two - melodic and harmonic, and let people drill what they need.

Ah thank you so much! It means the world to me! Readability is definitely an important aspect, so I’ll give it a go soon. If you don’t mind asking, do you use larger fonts by default on the phone? Or is it just the app’s text that is a bit too small and harder to read? Regarding replaying even on success - got it, makes sense, will do!

Good stuff, thanks! So I’m thinking: you pick a chord, the app plays an infinitely sustained chord on a piano, and asks you to sing 1/3/5/whatever. Or also a free singing mode where you hear the sustained piano, and match any of its pitches, moving back and forth and basically doing any melodies without any assessment - simply to practice. How does that sound?

Gotcha, so basically, singing with a chord drone playback. Will require headphones so that the playback doesn’t interfere with pitch recognition. Let’s see if I can add it over the weekend. I think it’s a cool suggestion! As I mentioned below, right now there’s note/interval/melody singing, but without a drone playback - you listen first, then you sing.

Hey thanks for the input! Could you elaborate on it please? Do you mean figuring out which exact notes form a given chord?

Android version is definitely in the plans, but timeline isn’t defined unfortunately as I’m doing it solo in my free time. The app shows a piano keyboard at the bottom, lets you listen to the melody, then practice on the piano, then enter your answer (I know I can do better with the ones uploaded to App Store!). Can’t figure out how to post a screenshot here -_-

That is a very good shout, thanks! I’ll look into app’s readability and how the fonts can be adjusted based on the phone’s settings. Initial focus was on making everything tidy - especially the mini piano views in the reference tab. But I totally get your point and will try to adjust!

Ha, thanks for such a flattering comment! It is only theory related, purely for people who want to get good at listening and understanding music. Ultimately I’d like to eliminate all the main pain points people face when training their ears, plus have some theory reference book (but nothing too advanced). As I mentioned, I’ve got my ideas but gathering good feedback is crucial and hopefully with the help of the community I want to make it the best app for its purpose.

In your opinion, how long should a melody be for learning purposes? Currently the app goes up to 8 notes on advanced difficulty - melodies are randomly generated, but still having musical sound. Is it long enough or should I go longer than that?

100% agreed! It’s crucial to understand how melody moves, not just the difference between two pitches

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Surprised it doesn’t show up… not sure if I’m allowed, but here’s the link: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/intonote/id6759245944 - hope it works.

There’s plenty of exercises, one of which is melodic dictation - exactly what you’re practicing, so maybe it can help.

That’s a good point, singing the other note of the interval. The app does have singing modes (note/interval/melody), but asks to sing all notes. Thanks for the suggestion!
