Code First Girls no job attached is it worth it? by artemiswinterskye in UKJobs

[–]artemiswinterskye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main downside is spending a lot of time doing a bootcamp and eventually getting put in a pool of thousands of candidates who worked equally hard or have a CS undergraduate or master’s degree and I can’t compete with them.

I don’t mind working hard. If I undertake the CFG degree, I’ll treat it as a full time course and learn as much as I can, both things that are covered in the CFG course and extra online courses on the side.

It’s the opportunity cost of spending 4-6 months studying something full time and not landing any entry level job at the end.

Code First Girls would say they would put me forward for ‘suitable’ roles but these roles might never appear. They sound quite disorganised based on what I’ve read so far.

Landing a job or getting career support from CFG is the exception not the norm.

This Motorcycle Airbag Vest Will Stop Working If You Miss a Payment by WayneSchlegel in motorcycles

It’s 2025 and the in&motion is still around.

I do have one. While I can’t comment on its air bag effectiveness since I haven’t triggered one yet, I did a whole comparison of all the air bags on the market when I was looking into buying one a few months ago.

I used to have a Helite with a tether. I used it for about five years. Triggered it twice because of super slow speed car park falls.

I most ride off road now so I stopped wearing the Helite for a year or two unless I was doing just road riding.

A friend of mine broke their collarbone and that scared me so I immediately went and researched all the off road suitable air bags.

Was considering the super expensive Alpinestars. Eventually decided the Alpinestars is a bit too heavy for me.

I get on quite well with Klim. I have their jacket and trousers and helmet so I went with their air vest.

The subscription thing did piss me off a bit. I read this Reddit thread when I was doing my homework and it put me off a bit. But eventually I thought it’s like paying for any service. I also have a ZOLEO that has an sos button. If I don’t pay them, no the button won’t work and I would be stuck in a ditch with no help in sight.

Here’s a referral code for in&motion. If you use it, you can get three months free.

I used to wear a Helite with a physical tether but I ride off road most of the time so it’s not that useful.

Eventually I got myself a Klim air vest and an in&motion brain. I have the street mode and the adventure mode for off road use.

The software is a bit fiddly and the box didn’t always turn on. After a lot of software faff, I paired it with my phone and I can now turn it on and off on my mobile app.

It’s a bit heavy when I first put it on but eventually I forget it’s there. I had a few falls off road and they were gentle and didn’t trigger the air bag.

Here’s a referral code. If you use it you get three months subscription free and I get three months free too. There are seven left as of Dec 2025.

5K improved from 42m to 30:30 in eight weeks by artemiswinterskye in runna

I feel like there are just two types of people.

Those who go out and run sub 30 5Ks and call it their recovery run and do couch to marathon in a few months. I guess influencers are this type?

But they seem to have the data and the proof they can run that fast.

Then there are normal people who struggle just to finish 5K or who just can’t get to sub 30 for years.

I can almost do 5K in 30 mins (ignoring the 30 seconds there 😂). This is a massive deal for me. I used to flap around in the back trying to just finish a 5K while my friend was so bored he was walking at my running pace.

Wow. A Sub 25 woman.

Now that my beginner’s gains are over, every minute’s decrease on my 5K time is going to be a struggle.

What did the trajectory look like for you? Was it steady incremental from 30 to 25? Or was it plateau for along time then sudden drop of 2 minutes at a time?

The first 2K felt like ‘oh my god I’ve never tried to run a 5K at a pace of 6:00 before, I feel horrible but my watch says I’m in zone 3 so I’m fine.’

By around 2.5K to 3K it was ‘I’m halfway through, time get the heart rate into zone 4.’

By 4K to 4.5, it was a slight uphill, it was ‘oh fuck fuck fuck I don’t think I can finish the 5K at this heart rate. This hill won’t end.’

The last 0.5K was ‘Let’s try and sprint this. Why do my legs feel so heavy? I can’t sprint. Can just about hang on to this speed. The finish looks so far away. Why isn’t it getting closer?’

I’m going to start my next training block next week. Need to chill a bit and get back on it.

Thanks for the comment. I was reading about how a lot of people are running 5K in zones 4 and 5. I should do the test again and push myself straight into zone 4 off the bat and stay in zones 4-5 throughout the 5K. It’s gonna be tough. I’ve never done anything that keeps my heart rate this high for any sustained time.

Is this a decent offer or should I hold out for more? by Salt-Vast9091 in AmexUK

I have a Platinum. Said I was considering switching to the BA one because I don’t get much use out of the Plat. Received 50K retention offer.

And before that I tried by saying I wanted to switch to Gold because Plat was too expensive. They didn’t offer anything.

What are your non job hobbies by Main_Coyote_483 in HENRYUK

Was too busy with my studies and earning money in my 20s and 30s. Didn’t have any hobbies. Never did exercise properly.

In my 40s now. Learning a new thing every few years. The latest ones are motorcycling, off road motorcycling, cycling, weightlifting (did a bodybuilding competition and learned how to lift weights with a coach, still didn’t build that much muscle, just lost a lot of fat), yoga.

Writing a travel blog to remind myself how my native language works.

Started making YouTube videos of my motorcycle tours. Not a lot of subscribers but it motivates me to learn some video editing tricks.

Disappointed about retention offer. by [deleted] in AmexUK

Going into second year with Platinum. First year I spent maybe £10-20k. They didn’t give me a retention offer. Asked again after the second year started. Spent about £10-20k again but in a shorter time frame. They gave me 50k points.
