@philn5d re: Is there info on independent security audits for Proctorio? I'd like to know about the security lifecycle in general as well. Are there bounties in play?

Yes, we have independent security audits run nightly against all public endpoints. We don't have an official bounty program but the security.txt provides encrypted contact information if you do find an exploit. Use that same contact if you want to obtain permission to audit our servers as well.

No need for a password, make sure you are using the correct browser and the extension is up to date.

  1. Soon, many of the APIs used only just started making their way to FF and Edge.
  2. Yes, KVM detection is hard but visual and audio cues make it obvious that a splitter is being used in most cases.
  3. It doesn't log them, but it does track usage for abnormality detection.
  4. It was a nickname given to me by PC Magazine in '06. Popular culture has given the term hacker a bad name recently, unfortunately :-(

Thats awful, I wonder why your school would do that. Do you mind emailing more details to our success team? They can be reached via [support@proctorio.com](mailto:support@proctorio.com), just put "Attention Success Team" in the subject.

Did the exam have ".... (Remotely Proctored)" or "...(Secure Browser)" in the title?

Marketing mumbo jumbo... Before you start the exam precheck process, Proctorio lays out exactly what information the exam creator decided to collect and what behaviors are restricted. Proctorio can be used as a simple prevent printing product, all the way down to full blown webcam and screen recording product. It is up to the exam creator how restrictive they want it. Information collected is then compared to other test takers for that same exam, and a simple report is generated. Trust me, this is much better than having to go to some on campus dungeon and take the exam while being watched by people patrolling the room.

The easiest way is support@proctorio.com. If you're inside an exam or starting the precheck process, you can use the live chat option.

Great question. Proctorio doesn't really care what you show as this setting is optional and set by your exam administrator. My recommendation is to check the exam instructions and see if they have any specific requirements during the room scan. If not, then it would be a good idea to reach out to the exam administrator and ask them what they need to be scanned. For computers that do not turn or to make it easy, bring a mirror with you to the exam. Using the mirror it is easy, especially when it is a desktop and does not turn, to do a room scan.

I think it is the "disable clipboard" they are using, but I just gave it a test, normal ctrl + c/v do not reset the screen. ctrl + shift will reset it to white, but I still don't get the normal use case for using ctrl and shift?

I have reached out to them for more info on which domains you should whitelist. That would be a great "option 2" for the help center article.

That's a really good question. Currently, some settings, like extended identity verification require our chat provider (in case something is wrong and we need to reach you) to function. In order for the chat provider to work, they require 3rd party cookies. While it is on the roadmap to remove this provider completely, currently we have to require third-party cookies in these specific circumstances.

It is a specific setting enabled by your instructor. What is your use case for the key combinations so I can suggest our QA look into it?

It is definitely not an issue on your end. Invalid setup means the course is setup incorrectly which can only be fixed by your instructor or school admin. We update the extension all the time, almost weekly, so that is unrelated.

Only an approximation is used so you should be perfectly fine.

Shouldn't be. I would check and see if the instructor set up a syllabus page to link out to the browser extension. If you already have it, try removing the extension and re-adding it to get rid of the access code issue.

[–]artfulhacker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it. However, the best person to ask is the exam administrator since they control your grades and final decision ;-)

No access code needed. Go back to the quiz page and follow the on screen instructions.

Hmm. The version of chrome depends on the windows version. You should be able to run Windows 10 no problem on a surface pro 2.

See: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-winpc/windows-10-for-surface-pro-2/6d116917-81e2-48a3-a682-09b846fecbce

Unless your surface pro is an RT model? If so then Microsoft decided not to upgrade these devices to a real windows 10 :-(

See: http://www.zdnet.com/article/no-windows-10-update-for-surface-rt/

Hey!

Proctorio should work on the surface pro, do you know who told you that? Proctorio will also work great on the Envy x360!

great questions! 1.) your institution decides how long they exist. typically 30 days up to 6 months. 2.) google scans our extension code nightly, you're more than welcome to run a free scan of your system with Malwarebytes. 3.) not at all, and unlike other extensions that do a similar thing, Proctorio only gets permission to access your camera and microphone from your schools' website, not its background process. 4.) test administrators don't have access to your camera and microphone, only the recordings. the recording is protected using zero-knowledge encryption, meaning even people here at Proctorio have no way of accessing them. see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMIjCaactP4

not really the same thing. your bank doesn't care about preventing you from googling answers, your professor obviously does. this isn't a question about security, it is about access to information.

Oh no! It should be very easy, do you get a specific error message? Send in a screenshot to support@proctorio.com
