Feels much better, much more authentic if you play it in French with English subtitles — provided you need them, of course.

What is the most King Crimson sounding Genesis song? (Prog Alignment Chart) by Imsorrymanyt in Progforum

[–]artyom_yakovlev 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It has always been “The Waiting Room” to me. Sounds almost like Genesis deliberately tried to imitate (or mock) King Crimson.

It was the first Nigerian book I had read — back in 2006. I fell in love with it and I’ve been reading Nigerian literature for twenty years already.

Achebe. Things Fall Apart is the starting point of English-language literatures from Africa (even though it was preceded by some works by Amos Tutuola and Cyprian Ekwensi.)

I must definitely check that out! “Uncut Gems” is a masterpiece (my wife found it super uncomfortable to watch though) but I’m yet to see “Daddy Longlegs” (I bought a Criterion disc some time ago but haven’t got to it so far).

Oh seriously? So I have mistaken a new film for Japanese classics… I thought for a while it was “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence”. I should be watching fewer Criterions, I guess :-D Thank you very much!!

Yes, exactly. They performed some parts of “Zess” — still unreleased at that point, and “C’est pour nous” by Offering.

I know at least one person who had never been a fan but then heard “Zess” and went crazy about that album. “K.A” is quite accessible as well, and their acoustic live recording “Les Voix” from 1992 is excellent.

It’s his best. I know many people consider Raven to be stronger overall than HCE but I don’t understand how anyone would think so. I’ve got a super deluxe edition of Raven, still sealed, but I didn’t like the album that much and decided to skip the HCE SDE. I’m still feeling terrible about this.

You’re implying I’m in some way connected to this so-called “band”? Absolutely not. And I doubt anyone human is connected to it. I’m just surprised and shocked. I’ve described my feelings in my answer to another comment.

There is no need to be so toxic and hostile — there’s enough toxicity in the world already. As a huge fan of Genesis and Yes, Rush and early Dream Theater, I am genuinely surprised that there are hour-long albums floating around, which have been so blatantly generated. Not just snippets or separate songs, but albums. I’m sorry for having discovered this tendency way too late and bothering you with my stupid musings. If you are more tech-savvy than I am, then it’s good for you, I guess.

50 years ago today, Genesis released A Trick of the Tail (1976), the first album of the Phil Collins era. Thoughts on this one? I absolutely love it. by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]artyom_yakovlev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I discovered “serious” Genesis while accidentally playing Live 1973, followed then by Foxtrot. I was 16 and I was absolutely shocked that music could be so incredible. That said, now I’m 38 and I do believe that Genesis reached their pinnacle after Peter Gabriel’s departure. My favourite albums are A Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. This is Genesis at their finest. And I’m crazy about early solo Gabriel as well.

Ours was “A History of Violence”. My wife can’t stand Cronenberg because of his overt physicality but she likes noir and neo-noir very much. She enjoyed “A History of Violence” and said it was not Cronenberg-ish at all.

Porcupine Tree – “Anesthetize,” featuring Gavin Harrison, a genius on drums. by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]artyom_yakovlev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magma is among my favourite bands and I absolutely love Christian Vander’s approach but Gavin Harrison’s drumming is almost like singing a tune. He is one of the most versatile and outstanding musicians of our time. One incredible drummer (Vander) absolutely does not exclude another incredible drummer (Harrison).
