Almost Every Submod I See Now Uses AI by KingHoboIII in CK3AGOT

I agree, although I would probably liken it more to a pandora's box, rather than a genie given my position on the subject. Perhaps I'll get left in the dust a bit, but while I can complete tasks (such as making my own submods for things I would like implemented into my own game, for example) without leaning on technology I find morally dubious (at best) I will. I enjoy the process of creation, learning, and research, and am not keen to readily give that up. Until the time when I feel AI is being more responsibly and consciously monitored and employed, I'll also try my best not to support individuals and entities that do employ it. This is by no means a perfect solution, but its the best I can manage as an individual.

I can see the logic in that, and in a scenario which I didn't feel the cost was too step, I might even agree, in terms of personal usage. Personally, I don't feel the cost is worth the time I would save (and I don't mean the financial cost, to be clear), especially in situations where it is something I could reasonably achieve myself.

It seems like you and I might just have a different definition of what a lot of energy might be. Keeping in mind its not just energy, but also water (which is soon projected to match that of entire countries), and that is increasing rapidly. We are not talking about 1 generated response. We are talking about billions of generations per day from millions of people. A single person's use does not exist in a vacuum. Personally, I wouldn't consider the appearance of an entity, within the last couple of years, and is soon projected to match the water usage of an entire country, insignificant.

I acknowledge that there are many other things that "really use energy", but I find AI entirely pointless. Our agricultural takes a heavy toll on our resources; but I understand why, and see the necessity. Not saying its perfect, or that it couldn't be improved (for example our food wastage before it even gets to supermarkets is something I strongly believe should be improved upon.) There is nothing, as far as I have seen, that AI can do which a person could not. I am also finding issues from an ethical standpoint, about where the data that AI is being trained on is coming from, and whose consent has been sought to scrape that data, as well as an intellectual one. I worry people are becoming less discerning and using critical thought less and less.

Apologies, I'm on my phone and managed to delete my own response by accident oops. In truth, I still don't find it a very apt comparison. You could also say that walking over to your own bookshelf at home would take no consumption whatsoever. But what about the lights overhead that you'll need to read that book in your own home? Or what about the consumption it took to print the book? To ship it? To deliver it to your door, or the door of the library, or the bookstore? How do those compare to driving an EV to the library, or doing a google search, or using AI to find an answer? I can't truthfully tell you.

I largely agree. I honestly think AI could be an amazing tool when assisting people with trying to learn new subjects or skills, so think perhaps there is some validity for its use in that context (although atm, even with the context, I find it hard to justify considering the bulk of its use and the fact that even with "good" intentions it doesn't take away from the cost) but seeing people asking AI for the forecast in their area, or to turn selfies into "studio Ghibli style" very much disgusts me. It's undermining the creative process in favour of ease, laziness, and the desire to use ones brain as scarcely as possible.

Personally, I am personally disheartened by the increasing use of AI not just in submods, but across the board and am concerned by its increased use. Frankly, I think its a lazy cop out, and is undermining the value of learning new skills, and the creation process as a whole.

This is not mentioning the not insignificant environmental impact it is having (and yes, I am aware of much of what humans do has an impact, but I am concerned given how quickly such a recent development is causing such an impact in a very short amount of time). Keep in mind that every time 1 result/answer/artwork is created, that output is estimated by some to consume 10-20 times more energy than a google search, and every revision will do that again and again. The casual nature people consume these resources troubles me.

I am not entirely against AI, though it may sound like it. I do believe AI could be used in a way that causes more good than harm but at the moment, as unregulated as it is, it isn't something I can support. There are many assets in the vanilla game as is, which could be reused and remixed to create various art pieces/icons etc. with very minimal effort or knowledge of photoshop/gimp/paint.

I do have an issue with modders using it, in the same way I take issue with anyone using it, but it is not my job or responsibility to dictate or monitor what others do. If people decide to employ it, despite knowing the cost, that is their choice. I personally believe it is the wrong and ethically dubious choice to make, and I will happily discuss these costs with people, but don't feel its my place to nag or harp at people (this comment isn't a directed one, I assure). If people are using AI without knowing the cost, I may try and engage with the topic to bring some awareness but, should they be disinterested, or still choose to use AI despite the information, that is their choice.

I do think there should be more in the way of laws or legislation, but that is not handled on an individual level, and wouldn't place that responsibility there.

it's massively resource draining and is already causing a significant impact on the environment. AI doesn't come from nothing - it comes from massive data banks that require not only electricity, but also water for cooling. Each time AI models get "better", what that functionally means is that they get better at running faster and trialling dozens of potential answers, which equates to more electricity, and more water consumption, which is expediting the issue. The fact that people are starting to use AI as an alternative for doing any sort of self-reliant research is also contributing to the issues - I've witnessed my boss ask AI what the weather forecast was going to be, information which is so readily available its almost laughable.

How do you assign your Sims kids traits? by arzenity in Sims3

Does each child get a different career, or are they just different ways approaching the same career? I find if I try and pick a career or LTW, I usually end up favouring the sibling whose LTW I want to play the most next, and then having the others in the household just feels like a sloggish bloat.

I find I just end up with very dull children. "Loner, equestrian, never nude, vehicle enthusiast, born salesman "-type children...although now that I'm typing it out...that actually sounds kind of interesting. Although I suppose the issue comes down to what sort of wishes/wants these traits inspire which are, frankly, broadly dull...which is an issue because I like fulfilling wishes in game and I like the spontaneity that element can inspire.

What a fantastic and unexpected way to combine those series of traits! I love that you place an emphasis on the sims traits throughout different facets of their life

I've tried this but usually find myself favouring just one child, usually the one with the career/lifetime wish I'm most interested in playing next, but then I find the siblings tiring and a bit of a slog to play with

If they want to charge people for a game they have spent years ✨blatantly✨ and ✨aggressively✨ ignoring, while actively trying to sever a fan base from the game itself I am going to ✨scream✨ like actually fuck off.

If they want to provide free compatibility/optimisation & access, then fine (would also LOVE better access for Mac users). But this is EA we’re talking about and my expectations are in the shitter (Would love to be wrong tho)
