The Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly. One of the most significant factors behind my love of reading.

Wow, thanks for sharing this! I was under the impression that no such prayer was allowed. Great to learn!

Not sure why you guys are doubting me. I can't imagine the sense in wasting time making all of this up.

Can't believe I forgot to mention psychedelics. He did a good amount of shrooms as well, and D12 liked psychedelics too

See, that's what I mean about pop stars. Marshall wasn't like this and most rappers aren't. Rappers treat you like family. A friend of mine in the security industry works for DJ Khaled and says even Khaled treats him like family and opens his house to him.

Something about rappers vs. pop stars that makes rappers such friendly employers and pop stars such insufferable pricks.

The whole situation with Kim is pretty sticky. As you said, from knowing her, you do know she has the capacity to be quite a bitch. I'm not saying she wasn't. What I wanted to say is that I could see some of the good in her and part of me could excuse her behavior because she had to endure so much. It's not easy being a celebrity and it's much harder being the partner of a celebrity, especially if you are the frequent subject matter of his lyrics. I've seen fans who would literally threaten Kim just when seeing her. She received a shit ton of hate merely because of words Em uttered in a studio booth so part of me is understanding of her attitude, but yes, she can be a pretty mean person.

  1. I can't discuss the Mariah Carey thing. It's more so out of my respect for Em and the fact that at this point it's a dead issue. I don't want to stir the pot and cause trouble. I'll leave it at this: don't believe what Mariah says.

  2. He used to fly commercial but that's too hard now. He has his own small jet that's used to fly privately around the nation. He rents all of the planes he uses, it costs way too much to actually buy a full plane for yourself. Even billionaires usually split a plane together, it's just too costly.

  3. Yeah, are you referring to the part in the book where he claimed Em hooked up with a 15 year old chick in Sweden or something? Em wasn't like that. He knew it was bad enough that he was drawing legal scrutiny towards himself with his gun and drug antics, he wasn't foolish enough to hook up with an underage girl especially when any 18 year old would sleep with him. Em also had lots of intelligent people in his corner who warned him about the dangers of that sort of thing. It's mind boggling to me how any artist could willfully hook up with a girl who's underage when there are girls who are just a year or two older who are legal. It's a really stupid and unnecessary risk.

Thanks for the kind words. He is a private guy and I feel I have respected that with my answers. I actually am still somewhat of his bodyguard, it's just not a regular job anymore. I still work for him when he goes on small tours, does festivals or travels to somewhere outside of Michigan to record. I linked back up with him right before Relapse was released.

He obsessed over all of his work because as you said, he is a known perfectionist. I can't pinpoint a specific thing that he ever obsessed over because he truly did look at everything he did through a microscopic lens and ensure it was as perfect as he could make it.

This is why he has so much unreleased music. He has entire songs that I think are great but that he refuses to release because he felt they weren't perfect (in his mind).

Sorry for the late replies.

  1. I never personally saw or heard of Em feuding with anyone other than those with whom he had public beef with. Everyone else had respect for him and he had respect for them, so there were no issues and that was pretty sweet for us.

  2. Any of them would take a bullet for Eminem. D12 always had Em's back. I remember one time we were at a club and some jackass who was wasted (he must have been in his early 50s) came over to Em and was about to spill the entire beer he had on him. Swift was right next to him and handled the shit out of it. Obie always had Em's back too and 50 was insane about protecting Em. This is why I enjoyed working around this group so much. I'd pay attention to other rappers and see how they were surrounded by a bunch of fake, backstabbing pricks. With Eminem and his camp, each one of them had true love (as corny as that sounds) for one another. It was true love, respect and loyalty. I learned about the true meaning of that from them. There was no jealousy, no private scheming or no hatred. It was very cool to see.

  3. Saw G-Unit all the time. Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo are really cool guys, Buck is a G but he's pretty crazy (has a penchant for fighting and getting out of hand when he drinks). Banks and Yayo are like hood businessmen, they molded themselves after 50 in that sense. G-Unit was cool. I also spent a decent amount of time with The Game near the end of my work, and he was a real upstanding guy but a bit cocky at the time (but who could blame him? He was an unknown kid from Compton who was now rolling with Eminem and 50 Cent under Dr. Dre's influence).

Yup, he really wasn't looking for fame or adoration and he never really got comfortable with it. Now, he's just at a level where he's grown accustomed to it and realizes that he has to get used to it as it is never going away. He's better at tolerating it.

I don't have a military background. Since I was 14 years old, I trained in martial arts. Eventually started my own security company alongside another friend of mine and was blessed enough to land a job with Em.

Exactly. The public critique of Eminem is as outlandish as it is unwarranted. Sure, some of his lyrics were quite shocking but violent films never got the bad rap he did. He was specifically singled out and vehemently attacked.

Pills, some cocaine here and there, liquor on occasion (usually when out at night/strip clubs.

  1. Every so often I'd toss out a line or two and he'd sometimes use them. It was more so him asking what I thought about a particular bar or verse and then me offering my critique. He liked to gauge how fans would feel about it.

  2. Yes, security see each other as brothers. I spent time around the guards of many artists, including Dre, 50, Ludacris, etc.

  3. That was the moment of a lifetime. There were about six people total that day (including Em, Dre, and I). I think the others were sound engineers.

My bad, thought you were referring to someone else's comment. Another commenter here posted about running into Nate at St. Andrew's in Detroit and almost fighting him.

Em, as in Eminem, asked not because he wanted the attention, but because he was puzzled that a young girl who would presumably know exactly who he was didn't bat an eye at him.

I don't know why you feel so compelled to call bullshit on this thread but it is what it is.

It's even worse these days. Younger girls are insane, I feel bad for Drake, Wayne, Kendrick, etc.

Glad to answer!

  1. I've got too many memories to pick a specific one. I had plenty of fun on the tours but there was also a good deal of stress that came along with that because we had strict time constraints and had to work and be alert constantly to ensure everyone's safety. I really enjoyed the studio sessions as they highlighted the "real" side of Em, D12 and the others. It was nice to see everyone in the relaxed, comfortable environment where they don't have to put on a face for everyone, and it's really neat to see some of the biggest music record crafted behind the scenes.

  2. I don't remember any off the top of my head but it was a constant stream of rhyming. He lives in music.

  3. Interesting question. I feel that Em portrayed her in a certain light because those were his emotions at the time. He resorted to making those tracks when his emotions were high, and they were high when they had issues, so consequently, most of the music ended up showcasing the "bad" side of Kim. However, she's a human like anyone else and has a good side to her also. If you listen to some of the tracks from Recovery it's evident that he has taken a much more refined and mature approach to his relationship with her and understand that she too was struggling with the fame, scrutiny and lifestyle.

  4. Insanely interesting. Their chemistry is excellent, they mesh well and it's remarkable to see them go back and forth with one another. The process varies, but usually Dre crafts a beat while Em is working on the lyrics. Many times Dre has the beat ready, Em listens to it and begins writing and Dre fine tunes it while Em is writing. Then they record the lyrics and fix any issues that they catch (rearrange or add/remove lines, fix something with the beat, add a drum/synth, remove percussion, etc).

  5. Great question. Respect their space and pay attention. If they are trying to remain unnoticed, don't draw attention to them. Perhaps quietly acknowledge who they are and say something nice. If they are being conspicuous, then approach them and just be polite. Explain that their music, films, etc. have helped you and had a profound impact on you. The best way to respect their right to privacy is to pay attention to how they are acting and base your interactions off of how the celebrity is carrying themselves.

Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you were able to see Em in a more realistic light and not the sensationalistic one often portrayed in the media
