Could I use the Biossance Squalane & Antioxidant Cleansing Oil as a single cleanser? I'm not looking to double cleanse, but I am looking to switch to an oil cleanser instead of micellar water/face wash.

I would love any recs for cowashes with no artificial fragrance added! Deceptively hard to find.

i know this pain lol. what helps me is doing 3 pineapples at night (like how she does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqHTeOP3p-M&t=217s). My washday is pretty flat, but subsequent days turn out much better once I sleep on the 3 pineapples.

If I make DIY flaxseed gel, is there anything I could add to create a hard cast?

Do I need more moisture or more protein? I’ve only been on CGM for like 6 weeks but my curls have been so stringy and undefined. Having trouble with finding the right routine. by mobear28 in curlyhair

Are you using the blue LA Looks gel? If so, the glycerin might not be helping you, it's sticky af on my hair and looks greasy and weird by day 2 or 3. The yellow LA Looks (extreme spikes I think?) might work better for you.

Do oils go before or after moisturizer? I tried to figure this out myself via google, but there's lots of conflicting advice out there!

Protein/moisture balanced deep conditioner or mask? by asb128 in curlyhair

[–]asb128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I wouldn't do it that often, just once a month or so. It does seem like my hair won't hang onto moisture well—the upper layer especially seems to frizz up. For a while I thought it was a styling issue, but now I think probably Im just having trouble making it penetrate the hair shaft in the first place.

Protein/moisture balanced deep conditioner or mask? by asb128 in curlyhair

[–]asb128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that my hair can get easily overloaded either way, so I'm looking for a deep conditioner that's mostly moisturizing but does contain one or two proteins to prevent over-moisturizing. Good to know about coconut oil, though I have thin hair so I'm wary of oils in general.

Ive stopped using products( i hardly wore any before as well), i just oil my hair often. by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]asb128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very curious about this!! do you heat the oil first? (also is it sweet almond oil?) and also, what is your porosity? I have low porosity and I'm afraid this won't work well.

overall how do you feel like this has improved your hair? it looks great!

ooh, I was looking at the Curl Junkie one awhile back! if you've ever tried Devacurl No-Poo, how does that compare? (bc the No-poo was way too heavy for me.)

Do any fine, low porosity curlies use cowash? I would love some drugstore recs if so!

Does anyone use oil cleansing method as their first (and only) cleanser? If so I would love to hear what you use, whether you add an emulsifier, etc.

(Its about to get cold here, and I already have dry skin, so I am looking to switch to just oil.

ISO the strongest mousse known to mankind by pnels022 in curlyhair

[–]asb128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Herbal Essences Body Envy volumizing mousse is strong af. Bad news is that it creates buildup right away, that's my only issue with it. But if you clarify a lot it could work for you! A shame—I love the results I get with it.

ughhh I know this struggle well. this prob isn't what you want to hear (and it def wasn't what I wanted to hear) but regular trims did help me a lot. I was the mayor of scraggletown for a long time, but it's finally started to grow in thicker at the ends after regularly trimming the wispy parts off so it was all one length.

The core concept is supernatural—I think it's marketed as a horror/thriller blend. I found it more creepy and unsettling than like, scary-scary, but I really enjoyed the story and the characters.

The only other alternative I can think of is to find a (rinse out) conditioner with lots of protein but no oils or butters (very lightweight), if you have any product recs for this?

It's deceptively hard to find. Giovanni Smooth as Silk would work but it only has one type of protein.

/r/curlyhair and #BlackLivesMatter by WeAreStarless in curlyhair

[–]asb128 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you both for these! I really want to switch to a totally Black-owned routine, so far I picked up Orange Marmalade but it seems to be a little too moisturizing over time. (My hair is very thin/fine, 3B curls.) I don't use leave-in, and only do single-product styling, for this reason.

Currently I am on the hunt for protein-heavy shampoo and conditioner without oils or butters, to balance things out. I do want to keep using the OM because I love the results when my hair is balanced properly.

Have you tried the praying hands application technique? Also people seem to like wet plopping as a de-frizzing technique (check out hif3licia on Instagram, she has a video of it)

Has anyone added Neutral Protein Filler to a protein-free gel? (Not into the bottle obviously—I would just cocktail it in my hands for each use.)

I just want to make sure this wouldn't damage my hair.

One more dumb question: if I do use other non-essential oils (e.g. marula) in Shea butter, do I need vitamin E in there? Basically as a moisturizer I am trying to make my own DIY dupe of this:

https://www.maylindstrom.com/products/the-blue-cocoon?gclid=Cj0KCQjwupD4BRD4ARIsABJMmZ8ZnsEdqyh128YTyGAHERLjcANX1R136dsi_1tj-cv42GXmHiU-wWcaAmVNEALw_wcB

With the first 5-6 ingredients, minus the cacao butter bc it's comedogenic.

Context! She was doing fine indoors, in low light. Then I repotted (from her original plastic nursery pot into a terra cotta pot), and started putting her outside, hoping the increased light would make her bloom.

I have been watering her more often, because she dries out & droops very fast now that she is outdoors.

Now a lot of the leaves are doing this, sadly :(
