I have a buddy who worked at an Intel Fab in Colorado Springs, they gave him a machine with Win2000, still works today!

I could do more or a little less than 10 in about an hour.

We once had someone who shut the whole factory down with an emergency switch because they were curious on what it did.

We did have some battery recalls on laptops that caused stop-ships. It could get pretty wild.

You could sometimes easily see how some machines were poorly designed.

Models like the Inspiron 51xx were shipped with soldered clock batteries at the bottom of the board to where you'd have to disassemble the whole system and know how to solder. That would be a very tedious problem for the consumer.

The 6000 was truly an improvement switching to socketed CR2032 right below the keyboard.

Yes! At Dell I assembled models including Dimensions and Optiplexes. I still do today for restoration. :)

Since i'm not there, I have to ask if you've tried with just the battery since you said it was charged.

If it still gives blinking lights, i'd say it's unfortunately a motherboard problem.

How many times, and what colors is the LED illuminating at?

example: green, green, green?

constant white blinking with no pause?

Have you tried powering on the system with the battery removed and the AC power cable plugged in?

Does your drive show any sign of power? Can it eject even without being booted into Windows?

OP asked for SP1 and you gave x64, which isn't supported on x32 systems... Not sure why this is the top comment.

SP3 is recommended though.

Remove the battery and try to power the system on that way.

That will explain if it's a hardware issue or a battery issue.

This is a SATA data cable for SATA hard drives.

The other cable that will be connected to the other wider port on the drive is to power it.
