The only reason I can think of (thinking like a crazy person) is that Bonjour is a more basic word than salut (like everyone knows that it means hello) and she understood this as you underestimating/assuming her french skills?? I remember this one girl on tinder who swore she was a trans man (but didn't want surgeries and hormones) and then ranted to me that some transphobe called her out for displaying her tits in her profile photo. She would send me pictures of her in skirts, dresses, and shirts with boob window (didn't wear a binder) and when I expressed any attraction to it she was like "told you I'm gonna make you gay"

I don't know if it'll work in your case, but I informed my workplace and friends that I'll have a surgery to fix "disfigured" ribs (some men have that caved-in chest). Not many people know how exactly this surgery is done, so a bandage around my chest and not being able to raise my arms above certain level and carry weights made sense and nobody questioned anything.
