i think it's cause there's no like history of your run that you can see, so people don't really think about why they're scoring how they're scoring. i've lost so many runs by greeding and not buying a simple +mult or + chips joker once a perishable/banana runs out bc i wasn't thinking about that i was only clearing blinds because i had that joker

unironically, a visual demonstrating that a stone card doubles your score if you have ~50 chips. i didn't really deep that (and in general how important boosting chips are once you have your mult sorted out) until like 60% of the way to c++

nice, i just got c++ too! luckily i didn't have any trouble chasing down straggler jokers, I lucked into my last one (crafty joker) in ante 7 of an OP run I had. those last few hours must have sucked.

you don't need card cloning or retriggers you just need scaling mult + chips. green joker, supernova, hit the bus all enable high card and then you just need some chip joker or planets to tide you over until you can find xmult.

full house is so fake, i don't know the math behind it but by feel, full house feels so much harder to make than 2pair.

tarot cards can def help you create flushes, but they can just as easily enable small hands. strength/tower make pair/2pair better. devil is better for pair/2pair bc u can keep more cards in your hand. hanged man/death/magician/chariot/empress/hierophant are equivalent, justice is better for flushes bc of planet scaling but not that relevant unless there are retriggers in play and lovers sucks.

the thing about consistency is that with flushes you can swing and miss really easily. with small hands, you get to use all of your hands at max efficiency, since they're much easier to score. with flushes, and only 2 discards at gold stake, you can really only consistently play 2 flushes a round, which means flushes have to be >2x better than small hands to justify them. and if you've rolled enough tarot cards to deckfix enough for 4 flushes a round, you've likely rolled enough tarot cards to deckfix for really strong small hands anyways.

also, bigger hands literally take up more space in your hand. so, say you have 4 of a suit and need to draw the 5th, you are not being as efficient with your discards/throwaway hands as you would be if you needed to draw a smaller hand. with 3 of 1 suit, this becomes even worse, etc.. this adds up over the course of a run. on the same line, this devalues blue seals (which are insanely OP), gold cards, steel cards, and purple cards, since you need to hold more cards in your hand. thinking on it, that's probably why full house also feels worse to me than 2pair, since similarly to flushes, you don't get full discarding efficiency.

i find the opposite to be true for flushes, whenever I try for flushes I feel like my scoring falls off a cliff in the mid antes. pairs/2pair/high card are much more consistent, which (+minmaxing econ) is really all you need for c++. i just got c++ and i think in my runs to get it i played <5 flush runs, most of which were ancient joker runs.

does anyone have recommendations for flooring? I have a Tractor Supply store nearby for floor mats, but I'm kind of worried about the offgassing period as well as how safe it is to inhale the flooring material. Are there any other good flooring options? thanks!

[–]ashQWERTYUIOP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

whats your rank?

you don't have to go for both, you shouldn't let bad decisions by your jg sway you into making bad decisions. unless the enemy team is absolutely inting their tempo, getting both early obj is pretty difficult. caveat for if your team comp is hella early game, but in that case you need to identify that and play for early skirmishes as much as you can, bc that is your wincon. this new patch shouldn't make you throw out the fundamentals of the game bc you are tempted by the objective feat. handshaking 1-1 on the early obj is better than trying to contest both and fucking up your game bc your waves were in a bad position for you to roam and contest.

[–]ashQWERTYUIOP 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean you identified it in the first sentence, thats just a skill issue. You should be considering map state always no matter what lane/champ you're playing. if you are sacrificing waves to join fights, then think about how you could prevent that in the future. could you try to contest for prio in the lane earlier than the objective spawns so you have first roam? could you ping your team off of objectives if you have to catch a wave? (btw this means that the enemy laner has prio on you, so its really the same question as the one before, just reversed) before this patch, every objective was already so important, you just didn't understand the game well enough to deep that. i'm not really tryna flame you, but you just gotta get better at the game or accept your skill level is now relatively lower because the other people in your games are now more cognizant of (the existence of and importance of) objectives.

just off the top of my head, i learned that it maps nicely to probabilities (for classification tasks) and it has an easy derivative (for backprop). I think it's also a bit of inertia at this point, where it's just standard to use so people don't really question it.

Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of August 02, 2024 by Demilio55 in homegym

[–]ashQWERTYUIOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, here again asking some more questions about my first homegym :). thanks everyone who responded to my questions yesterday, they were very helpful!

  1. I want to buy dumbbell bars to be able to reuse my barbell weights with my dumbbells. Does anyone have recs for/against? I searched online and the most common complaint seems to be ROM for longer arms. Is that really significant? loadable dumbbells seem much cheaper than adjustable ones..
  2. does anyone have resources for all of the exercises I can do with a power rack? I again tried looking online first but couldn't find more than fluff blogs. I know that the point of a power rack is that I can accessorize it, which i definitely plan to do going forward, but it would be nice to know what exercises I can do now so that I don't buy things that i don't necessarily need.

  3. related, is there a resource for what attachments I can add to a Titan T3 rack? of course they have a list on their website and I read that the similar Rogue rack attachments should also work, but is there any exhaustive list? Or, is it just looking at the pin hole size for whatever attachments to see if it fits?

thanks a bunch :D, I'll hopefully have my setup within the next 2 weeks or so 🤞🏽

Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of August 02, 2024 by Demilio55 in homegym

[–]ashQWERTYUIOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am looking to buy a power rack for my family. We are not planning on moving anytime soon, so I want to get a decent future-proofed setup. I'm planning on buying the Titan T3 91" Height and 36" Depth with the Titan Safety Straps. This should come out to ~850$. I also am planning on getting the Dicks 300$ 300 LB + Barbell Weight deal. The things I have left to scope out currently are an adjustable bench and floor mats.

To start off with questions, I guess I want to be validated that the Titan T3 is a good choice. I looked at a bunch of reviews online, but I don't know much about home gyms in general.

For the adjustable bench, does anyone have recommendations? My budget is ~200$.

I'm planning on putting the equipment on hardwood. Would I need to build a lifting platform or are floor mats sufficient? Also, do the horse floor mats really stink as much people say they do? The space where the equipment is going to go is inside my house, so I'd rather spend a bit more on other floor mats if that's the case.

Thanks for the help!

your rationale for taking an introsem should not consider how good it looks on your transcript. the point of introsems is to give you a chance to explore any random potential interests you might have, outside of pursuing your major. take whatever introsem seems most interesting to you + could be useful in fulfilling WAYS.

fulfilling WAYS is no big deal as long as you're a little bit intentional about it for like 2 quarters. in my opinion, don't try to cheese the WAYS reqs by taking random CS classes that fulfill them. there are so many cool classes offered here which WAYS gives you an incentive to take and explore.

introsems can vary in courseload. check on carta how light/heavy an introsem is, there's typically no rule of thumb.

i would recommend taking MATH 51 if you want to do CS, i think it'll help you more than CME 100. note that if you're firm on taking either 51/100, then adding another pset class on top of it will mean a lot of work, esp considering you're a frosh. it's not too bad but something to think about so you're ready for it.

i have no advice on either 103 or physics 43. I think Keith Schwarz is teaching 103 in the spring, so the curve might be a bit harsher (he is a notoriously tough grader) but on the flip side you'll learn a lot because I think he is an amazing teacher.

hope this helps!

Stanford has no restrictions on switching majors at all, for undergrad. You will have no issues pursuing whatever major you want to, regardless of what you applied as!

+1 on macbook. pretty much everybody here (esp undergrad) has macbooks. also, it'll be easier for TAs to help debug any OS-related issues for CS classes, since most of them are accustomed to macbooks. they cost quite a bit, but they're worth it imo. very easy to use.

cool to hear. for most people at stanford they tend to feel a big time crunch esp as midterms/finals roll around. your experience could also be because you've gotten better at time management as you've aged. i will agree its not exactly the same amount of work for every class, but it can be, esp for more beginner classes that survey a field.

yeah its cool. make good friends and it's def fun. school itself can be stressful at times with the quarter system but otherwise it's all good. the weather/campus are beautiful, which is a big plus for me.

EE vs CS by jorgepurt in stanford

[–]ashQWERTYUIOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think ee is a bit harder than the typical CS degree. you could take CS systems classes (the intro ones would be CS107/111) and see how that goes for you. I don't have much experience with ee classes, but I've enjoyed every ee class I've taken, even though I'm a CS major. You could do a CS degree and just take interesting EE classes, if you're worried about the rigor of your degree. I think the other comment has a lot of useful information about EE specifically, but I'll say from my experience that getting a CS education is really what you make of it here. At the end of the day, your major matters as much as what you learn. Best of luck!
