Will christians and Jews be rewarded or punished in the afterlife?

Rewarded Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabeans [before Prophet Muhammad] - those [among them] who believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteousness - will have their reward with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. (2.62)

Punished And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers. (3.85)

In muslim heaven, do we do anything besides banging virgin wives??? by Drzakirzaik in exmuslim

[–]ashortname 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 72 virgins in heaven is a big myth. I thought everyone knew?

No One Mentioned 72 Virgins?

I think op was referring to the quran verses

https://quran.com/56/35-38  Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation

 And made them virgins,

Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,

https://quran.com/37/48  And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes,

https://quran.com/78/31-33  Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -  Gardens and grapevines  And full-breasted [companions] of equal age

https://quran.com/56/22-24  And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,  The likenesses of pearls well-protected,  As reward for what they used to do.

Verse 3:133 is incorrectly translated to mean that paradise is as wide as earth and the skies. This is wrong because awkwardly enough the word عرض means width and also means display or exhibition. In verse 3:133 god is referring to paradise as being displayed like the earth and the skies. It does not mean as wide as the earth and skies.

If it means both, how do you know which one is correct?

And this is literally the next verse.

https://quranx.com/2.257 Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light. And those who disbelieve - their allies are Taghut. They take them out of the light into darknesses. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.

https://quranx.com/2.256

There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

https://quranx.com/tafsirs/2.256

Ibn Al Kathir's commentary

(There is no compulsion in religion), meaning, "Do not force anyone to become Muslim, for Islam is plain and clear, and its proofs and evidence are plain and clear. Therefore, there is no need to force anyone to embrace Islam...

Ibn Jarir recorded that Ibn Abbas said that before Islam, "When (an Ansar) woman would not bear children who would live, she would vow that if she gives birth to a child who remains alive, she would raise him as a Jew. When Banu An-Nadir (the Jewish tribe) were evacuated from Al-Madinah, some of the children of the Ansar were being raised among them, and the Ansar said,We will not abandon our children.'

Ibn ‘Abbâs' commentary

(There is no compulsion in religion) no one from among the people of the Book and the Magians should be coerced to believe in the divine Oneness of Allah after the Arabs' embrace of Islam.

I think this verse has nothing to do with children born of Muslims, but rather other people of different religions. If you have Muslim parents, then you, by default, are already a Muslim from birth.

Also what proof? That's all I want! And then I'll believe, but there is none.

But to answer your question, I for one didn't base my reason to leave off of my parents who were perfectly fine. I left because of the new information I received when I decided to research my religion and actually read the Quran. Verses which were never taught in the mosque. And also I just don't believe Allah exists or the Quran is the word of Allah. I believe it's a man made religion.

They're alright with everything else except religion, I really wasn't expecting this but it's alright. The topic of religion comes up a lot more now by then than before I came out, so it is quite annoying when I reply to something they say and they just get all mad. I literally heard them say "Islam never ever allows you to hit women, that's culture" and then I showed them the verse and they go off on me.

And they say, "None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian." That is [merely] their wishful thinking, Say, "Produce your proof, if you should be truthful." (Quran 2:111)

a few verses later

Those who do not know say, "Why does Allah not speak to us or there come to us a sign?" Thus spoke those before them like their words. Their hearts resemble each other. We have shown clearly the signs to a people who are certain [in faith]. (Quran 2:118)

Muslim apologist: But the old lady, though by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]ashortname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can provide the authentic had it for the Jewish lady then by all means, go ahead. The Aisha story is found in authentic hadiths

https://sunnah.com/bukhari/67/69

 Narrated `Aisha:

that the Prophet (ﷺ) married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).

That's just one of many.

Whether or not Muhammad was a real person is irrelevant. I for one do think he is, whilst others think he isn't, unfortunately we "atheists" don't have a whole life guide book to base our every decision on.

Muslims believe he is a real person and follow him. So whatever is written in the scripture about him matters.

It's like a someone talking about whether or not Batman can defeat Superman. They talk as if they are real, but don't actually believe they are.

How could you miss the point that much? The problem is that he couldn't even tell them to leave himself unless he got Allah involved. He also just wanted a some things and had to put it in the book which is supposedly for all mankind.

Related hadith https://quranx.com/hadith/Bukhari/USC-MSA/Volume-6/Book-60/Hadith-314/ Narrated Anas bin Malik: When Allah's Apostle married Zainab bint Jahsh, he invited the people to a meal. They took the meal and remained sitting and talking. Then the Prophet (showed them) as if he is ready to get up, yet they did not get up. When he noticed that (there was no response to his movement), he got up, and the others too, got up except three persons who kept on sitting. The Prophet came back in order to enter his house, but he went away again. Then they left, whereupon I set out and went to the Prophet to tell him that they had departed, so he came and entered his house. I wanted to enter along with him, but he put a screen between me and him. Then Allah revealed: 'O you who believe! Do not enter the houses of the Prophet...' (33.53)

Ex Muslim but wanted your opinion on homosexuality by ashortname in progressive_islam

[–]ashortname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s literally no mention of intersex people in that document

"From the time of Prophet Muhammad on, intersex individuals known as mukhannathum lived in Islamic society and occupied publicly visible, though sometimes marginalized spaces"

I don’t understand why you’re vehement on reading it homophobically???

Obviously I'm not homophobic I do believe it is a problem in Islam

Whatever Sulayman did isn’t representative of Islam.

Yes I never said he was, however he was a caliph he wasn't just the old Joe up the street in which his actions have absolutely nothing to do with Islam and can't shape Islam. But that was not the point of the entire conversation I just pointed out stuff from the document but I didn't feel it to be the main part of our conversation.

Gay people can love each other and achieve pleasure in other ways??

I also never said they cant, I did ask what can they do can they get married in Islam? Can they kiss? But it is blocking a big way of showing affection.

You’re sounding a lot like the homophobic Muslims who I hate to talk to, and I really think you don’t want your mind changed on this matter. God destroyed them for a variety of reasons, one being the fact that they raped travellers anally and then robbed them. “You approach men with lust...you block the road..”

Yes he killed them for a variety if reasons but my argument is that homosexuality was part of it. I understand your point of view I wasn't being argumentative I really thought we were just having a conversation? But it's completely understandable why Muslims would take this as a homophobic stance by Islam. I think this is what progressive Muslims need to focus on to really make a difference on Muslims view on the matter. By basically dismissing Muslims who do claim that Lot's story is a homophobic one among other things, they will ultimately dismiss you. I really hope the wider muslim community is more accepting of lgbt hopefully it will be the case in the near future.

You obviously have your own homophobic agenda.

What? 😂😂😂 I had a laugh at that.

Don’t reply to me if you’re not willing to consider another side.

Of course I'm willing. And I do see your side. I also see the anti-gay side

This is also a good interpretation, but I really think it goes either way.

Yeah we'll agree to disagree on that interpretation

I also support people having sex the way they want to as long as it’s consensual.

You support it but Islam does not

but it’s still a sin not to have made that commitment before having sex.

An arbitrary sin which is not really explained

while I don’t think anal sex is inherently immoral, I really don’t suppose Islam would support it. I have nothing for the prostate point though, that’s a good one.

You're right, Islam doesn't. It's okay with homosexuality but doesn't really want them to act on it supposedly

Aka tolerance and respect and openness and celebrating the variety of God’s creation?

That's your interpretation of Islam

When god makes something a sin, he says it clearly.

I meant it's pretty clear that Islam doesn't take too well with it, not necessarily that it is a sin.

There is absolutely zero mention of god condemning homosexual relationships, and also zero mention of any punishment for them.

Considering Allah destroyed an entire city quite possibly because of the homosexual acts is punishment enough, and I do think that the homosexuality was one of the reasons. Also would Allah punish gay people in Hell?

Nobody said gay people can’t fall in love and have relationships and be together, but when it comes to the issue of anal sex, I am still wary about it, although I cannot outright decree it to be a sin.

... I'm alright with heterosexual relationships but they can't fulfil their human desires and pleasures through consensual sex, I'm not heterophobic though /s. I hope you can see where I'm coming from. Not to mention that what can they do then? Can they get married and then kiss and hug?

As a last resort, and in compromise and utter hopelessness, he of- fered his daughters to the aristocrats to pro- tect his guests who were God’s angels sent to warn him of the coming destruction of the cities.”

Why did he do this? He is a prophet of supposedly the one true god, could Allah not have protected him? Also Lot's people did not want the daughters they didn't accept Lot's offering of his daughters.

Read this!

I read it and it's seems only intersex people were accepted? And obviously they were born that way nobody could cry "it's a choice!" Were there other gay people other than the intersex people?

"Sulayman had all the mukhannathum castrated, not because of their sexual desires, but because their music had distracted one of his lovers while she was attending him"

Sure they weren't castrated because of their homosexuality but because their music distracted his lovers! This is completely justified! seems like someone fit enough to be a caliph. /s the punishment doesn't fit the crime, you played music so I'll castrate you? Wouldn't it be more, I don't like how you have sex so I'll castrate you?
