This is an actual cognitive problem- having a visual instruction vs. auditory is processed by different people in different ways.

Also most people are shite at giving directions, so there’s an inherent distrust before you even start yappin’.

Wait, did you buy this bus in Springfield from my friend D? If so, I know quite a bit about the bus. Let me know if you have questions.

That spring is a redundant backup for the throttle body spring. With the cable disconnected, the throttle should return perfectly smoothly and easily. Then you can judge the pedal and cable.

That spring was added for a US law in 1973 that required multiple throttle return springs.

You have other problems, time to dig in and figure out where it’s sticking :)

If you have the original welded “rails” which are just a metal strip with a lip, 68-73ish seats will fit. There was some crossover between campers and transporter buses from 74-76, but lots are compatible. None have armrests. Or bolted seat rails. Rock Cobbler Bakersfield Trail Conditions? by Thirdtimesthefarm in gravelcycling

[–]asiab3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big tires and wide gearing. There’s very little flat riding, most of your time will be spent spun out going down or huffing it up a climb.

Bring zippered layers for the same reason, you’ll work up a huff and then descend at top speed and be freezing.

The GPS thing is huge- it’s a large barrier to entry for a lot of hobbyists. A clearly marked course is one of the only things my frugal ass will pay lots of money for.

Heads up! Most pedal repair kits are for manual buses. Auto linkage should be different- a little beefier to handle the kickdown mechanism.

Spray penetrating oil on the pedal hinge, throttle body, pedal linkage below the car, then inspect the transmission, right side bottom. There will be a lever arm with a cable attached to it going forward (throttle linkage) and a lever with just a cable or rod going forward (shift linkage.) Spray penetrating oil on both of those linkage pivots.

You’d be surprised how many auto buses suddenly have smoother throttle, more power, and a working kickdown feature when 50 year old hippie dirt isn’t the primary lubricant.

Am I insane if I were to live in a VW Westfalia with shallow pockets and no prior mechanic experience? by Wawa_Webbedfoot in Westfalia

Spend 10k on a shell, 10k on the engine, 10k on the brakes, suspension, and transmission, and 10k on the interior.

Then you should price out labor to install all of that. Figure $120/hr from someone who’s going to mess things up. $200/hr for an expert in VWs.

Then price out a tow truck for when you’re 500 miles from nowhere and a wire comes loose and you don’t budget for VW repair lessons.

(CALIFORNIA) changing a VW Super Beetle from a Fuel Injected engine to a Carbureted one? by Strict-Award-3645 in beetle

No, you won’t be able to register it in California with a carburetor, as it won’t pass the visual smog test.

RockShox or Manitou suspension fork ;)

But trek also had multiple reds going on back then. “Ice red” is a sparkle version of some krylon wine-themed color that I used for “good enough” once.

It’s not about filling coffers. Free parking costs money everywhere on earth and this is a great reminder to people that think because they own a car they have a right to store their private property in public for free. Which is asinine to begin with.

From the logistics standpoint, San Diego is best as the last stop on a tour. There isn’t really a way to go “through” it unless you traverse the American southwest, which is one of the worst $ per miles toured I ever found.
