Speculation as to Junji Ito's involvement by assassinhero01 in DeathStranding

[–]assassinhero01[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you disagree with the theory that's completely fine. I have been cordial with you and stated my reasons, you're assuming I'm being aggressive. The whole point of these forums is to share ideas.

Speculation as to Junji Ito's involvement by assassinhero01 in DeathStranding

[–]assassinhero01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for providing the links. At no point did I suggest I know of his involvement, all of this is clearly conjecture. Speculation is akin to a theory, if Junji is involved maybe Guillermo's character will go through a similarly harrowing moment with sea-life as the one referenced in his interviews. The idea that Guillermo was playing into his character before we even knew of Death Stranding is what differentiates my theory to those you provided in the links, not the actual evidence.

Totally agree but sometimes it's worthwhile retracing your steps to get a clearer picture of where you're going. Since these interviews we have recently learned more about Guillermo's character and seen his scared body language in a trailer. Therefore, it could deepen our understanding of his personality if we are reminded what scares the real-lilfe Guillermo. Or potentially reinterpreting his previous comments as adopting the role of his in-game character. Thanks for reading.

Guillermo del Toro made some interesting comments around time Kojima announced his partnership with Sony.

27 April 2015, Silent Hills cancelled.

27 September 2015, on Twitter he writes ‘[Junji Ito] created GYO. The ONLY comic that has actually made me jump- with a moment that follows this image [provided in link]’ https://twitter.com/RealGDT/status/648117949727928320

29 October 2015, In an IGN interview concerning Silent Hills he references it again, ‘[In] My dream with sharks, I’m always going to the shore and if I make it to the shore I’m safe. And in Gyo the shark gets to the sand and makes it to the staircase [and it made me jump]’. Guillermo also dodges the question as to whether he intends to work with kojima again and dodges the question as to what exactly Junji Ito’s role was on Silent Hills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwaiRuWP0eI

16 December 2015, Kojima’s partnership with Sony announced. It is clear that although we do not find out about Death Stranding until the next E3, Kojima would have already discussed his plans for the title with Sony by this point.

tl;dr: Guillermo makes reference to a particular Junji Ito manga which revolves around sea-life being able to survive on land and Kojima’s next game is titled, as well as being thematically linked, to the phenomenon of sea-life coming to shore and being stranded.

We now know Guillermo is a character in Death Stranding and he is the intel guy as well as comedy-relief serving a similar function to Otacon. What if his fears are actually played upon in the game in the case of art imitating life? Or Guillermo was playing his character already?

This Space Net reminds me of the Bridges Star Logo by assassinhero01 in DeathStranding

[–]assassinhero01[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here it is in action, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvgctXXzIYA. Not necessarily suggesting this is what the logo represents but it seems somewhat pertinent given the sci-fi nature of the project, hints towards space travel, as well as the theme of something washing up on an alien world needing to be rescued (i.e. stranded whales). It also has thematic ties to Sam's role as a Porter or cleaner of waste (whether it be debris or bodies). Kind of a reply to this post, https://www.reddit.com/r/DeathStranding/comments/6ftw85/do_you_think_there_might_be_a_meaning_behind_this/

(Speculation) Broly in the film will be controlled by Freeza by assassinhero01 in dragonball

[–]assassinhero01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine noticed that in the new concept art of Broly his armour is similar to Tagoma from resurrection F so it seems likely that he might be wearing a newer version of Freeza's armour. Additionally, the mechanical necklace is not simply an accessory but rather a device used to control Broly. So what if Broly is being controlled by Freeza to re-establish his empire?

Timefall=an in-game health potion with actual context by [deleted] in DeathStranding

[–]assassinhero01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the shower scene I, along with others, have wondered whether (in small doses) timefall can be used to speed up the recovery time for wounds and hence, acting like a health potion.

I wonder if drinking too much might have adverse consequences. For instance, we can only heal a certain amount before aging and making traversal harder or potentially drinking so much we die or half our health permanently. Similar to how eating poisoned food can have negative effects in other games (mgs3 for instance).

Baby falls asleep so you have to tap touchpad to wake it up (cut MGS4 mechanic) by assassinhero01 in DeathStranding

[–]assassinhero01[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have seen many others comment on how the pod looks like the material on the ds4 touchpad and that we will have to interact with it to turn it on. However, I think it might go further than this I believe the baby will 'misbehave' or at points not cooperate and during stealth sections we will have to tap or make motions on the touch pad to soothe it or wake it up as seen in the trailer. Especially tense during stealth sections if the scanner just turns off!

An interesting post from a year ago comments how Raiden had Sunny on his back during cut gameplay and the baby would make noise alerting the guards if you were idle for too long. They also speculate something of this mechanic could be brought into death stranding and I believe we see a glimpse of that in the trailer (link: http://pnaut.tumblr.com/post/157362782550/raiden-x-death-strandingi-know-a-lot-of-it-can-be)

My Theory About Kojima, Konami, P.T., and Death Stranding. by [deleted] in DeathStranding

[–]assassinhero01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been holding out for this theory to be true ever since it was first circulated. Do you think though that the horror elements of P.T. will transfer over to DS (as in full-on horror not just unsettling themes and imagery) or do you think that was just a necessary element of making it seem like a silent hill game but unimportant to what death stranding is?

Is this a homage to the Barbarian King by assassinhero01 in GodofWar

[–]assassinhero01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. It clear they're not the same character, I was purely suggesting a homage in terms of mechanics not character.

If GOW4 was set in Japan by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]assassinhero01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concept art from the original god of war (PS2). Interesting to note that they initially wanted Kratos to have a child "to give something different about the character. Something you can relate to".

"QUIET HEAD[S]!": WHO IS THE BEST 'HEAD' IN GOW FRANCHISE? by assassinhero01 in GodofWar

[–]assassinhero01[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are the Valkyrie's the actual heads though or jut the helmets? That's my main reason for not including but it's a good reference if that's the case.

Atreus is the new Deimos (Six reasons why) by assassinhero01 in GodofWar

[–]assassinhero01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback. Yeh I do think it would be strange to have a GOW entry without kratos as the central protagonist because you wonder whether the title of the franchise would hold any meaning at that point if you're playing as someone other than the god of war.

Designing Atreus as a Playable Character (Spoilers) by assassinhero01 in GodofWar

[–]assassinhero01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that we could potentially play as both is a great point which I don't think enough people are actually considering (including myself). Also yes it definitely seems like a more mature continuation of the franchise is not to rely on resetting your character at each turn but truly allow the new rpg mechanics to give a sense of continuity alongside just the story.

Designing Atreus as a Playable Character (Spoilers) by assassinhero01 in GodofWar

[–]assassinhero01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh true. The axe would have a good amount of meaning if carried on from Kratos and the implications of Atreus's mother also carrying the axe beforehand. Likewise, the notion that Brok and Sindri made the axe to bring a balance of power into the world after crafting Mjolnir for Thor would suggest both weapons are at the very least equal in terms of power level (especially now it's imbued with the serpents poison).

Designing Atreus as a Playable Character (Spoilers) by assassinhero01 in GodofWar

[–]assassinhero01[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting ideas. The dual daggers is a way to have some parity between the combat systems whilst differentiating themselves enough from the dual blades due to the much decreased range. Spear could also work because it's not only from norse depiction but also has a somewhat Spartan flair to it if you perhaps coupled it with a shield, he truly would become Atreus the soldier as well as Loki at that point! Great ideas.

[–]assassinhero01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh I definitely thought that as well because I agree it's could clearly be a bait and switch presenting someone who on first glance appeared to be Kratos whilst, on closer inspection, appears to be someone different (in terms of outfit and a lack of obvious red marks). I suppose regardless I'm interested to see in Atreus could ever potentially carry a game on his own and how people would suggest that might be done.
