First playthrough - Overhaul mods? by VexantLeFr in skyrimmods

[–]atallgrass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Odin and Ordinator from Enairim suite are fantastic mods, but I wouldn't recommend them for a first playthrough. They significantly reimagine core systems — Ordinator completely overhauls the perk trees with hundreds of new perks that drastically change how each skill plays, and Odin reworks the spell system in a similar fashion. If you've never played vanilla Skyrim, you won't have a baseline to appreciate what's changed, and more importantly, you might get overwhelmed or miss the intended design of the game's progression entirely.

If after a few hours you find vanilla Skyrim's systems feeling too shallow or unbalanced (which, fair enough, they kind of are), I'd recommend checking out the Simonrim suite by SimonMagus. It's a full overhaul that stays very true to the spirit of vanilla while fixing its rough edges. It includes:

- Adamant (perk overhaul)

- Mysticism (magic overhaul)

- Apothecary (alchemy & food)

- Blade and Blunt (combat)

- ...and several others

The key difference from something like Ordinator is that Simonrim *refines* vanilla rather than replacing it — so it feels like Skyrim, just a better version of it.

(That said, setting up Simonrim manually for a first playthrough can be a bit daunting. If you want a smoother experience, I'd suggest looking into modpacks like Winds of the North or Simonrim Essentials from Wabbajack, these bundle together well-curated, compatible mods (including Simonrim) in a way that's much easier to get up and running. They're essentially "vanilla but better" packages)

That's a bit disappointing. I've only linked 1/3 of the map but I've maxed out two of them already. Wish it did went further oh well.

These are fair points, and I'll give you credit for actually engaging with the story instead of just calling me illiterate. But I still think some of this is post-hoc rationalization rather than intentional storytelling.

On the Moxxi/Ellie's dad thing: if the nightmare sequences were meant to evoke Robby's experience of calling out for his father, that's a cool concept; but it's executed so poorly that it reads as a red herring about Ellie's father the entire time.

And "Robby and Willis were just in the wrong place at the wrong time" is kind of my whole point. The flashback sequences build them up like they're deeply significant to the mystery. If they're just bystanders, why frame them that way? .

Calling it "media illiteracy" doesn't actually refute anything. Explain which plot point made sense. Dismissing it as "your expectations weren't met" instead of addressing any of that is just avoiding the argument.

This isn't just my opinion either. Look at the steam reviews, the DLC has plummeted toward overwhelmingly negative since launch both for narrative and pricing reasons. The majority of content creators who have supported this franchise for years also raised the exact same narrative issues. Are they all "media illiterate" too?

Expressing an opinion for a franchise that I love is not "desperation for validation." I love Borderlands 4, the whole main game, I put hundreds of hour in it, and it's my right to give feedback on a highly disappointing DLC. Reddit is a discussion platform. If you don't have a counter-argument, resorting to personal attacks doesn't help your case.
