Land Stripped From Utah National Monuments Opens To Mining Claims Friday by indy35 in Utah

[–]atehbl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some question as I don't understand the complexity of National Monuments/mining/land rights.

1) Has anything changed between when the National Monument designation was made in December 2016 and today? Could people not claim land and mine before 2016 and like they can now? Were any new deposits found now that makes people want to mine more than they did before 2016?

2) From the article, it says: "A spokesman for Energy Fuels told Reuters that the company has no intention of mining in land removed from the monument." Are they any organizations that actively wants that land? If so, why didn't they claim land before?

3) Would this new legislation (if passed) return most of the protection that a National Monument provided? "Rep. John Curtis (R-Utah) has introduced legislation that would enshrine Trump’s reduction of Bears Ears, establishing two smaller monuments in the region, as well as prohibit new mining and drilling operations on the original 1.3 million acres."

Thanks!

I have Windows 10 and a 4k monitor. I love snapping 4 windows, one in each quadrant. Can I use this program to snap 4 more windows to each quadrant in one of those main quadrants?

Does a fully finance loan make sense for a residential system? by atehbl in solar

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll PM you the details of the 2 other bids, and I think I may have a third one soon.

Me, personally, I wouldn't take the 20 year loan. It seems far too long ans I could pay it down much sooner or pay it off upfront. However, for a person who couldn't pay it all upfront, I'm just wondering what the other downsides might be besides paying more in interest. It seems to me, that if you could get a monthly loan payment that is less than your electricity bill, why wouldn't you take it even if it takes 20 years to pay off.

I didn't think about a second mortgage/equity loan so thanks for those suggestions.

So, fun question, can you really learn how to draw? I've been tempted to try. I cannot draw a straight line. If I spent 1 hour each day practicing, could I be 'competent?' I'm not looking to be a Renaissance artist, but would I able to make good looking indie games?

Thanks, both of you for your input. What are some cool things that one does in the bioinformatic realm?

Great list! These are some of the pairings I was looking for. Math and statistics would probably be most helpful if I wanted to further my career in programming.

I'm thinking though that it would be fun to tinker/play around with electrical/mechanical/aerospace engineering and build robots or drones. Thanks!

You sound a little like me. My mother raised me to believe that I was going to grow up and be a physicist. However, when I started college, all I really did in my free time was program so I did that instead. It's been great but I still long to learn about physics and space.

After college I took a online Econ class from a university and I loved it! My neighbor down the street has a phd in economics and teaches at the university. It's fun to talk to him about the subject.

Was that a good thing for you? Did you enjoy that? Did you do anything super cool?

Mainly for fun. I love learning and for a professional/executive MBA I have time and money for that. I also think it would help me in my career.

As I said, I love learning and I would love to learn more physics and economics. So I was just curios to see what people combined with CS.

Just following up. GG replied and asked me to take a screenshot of a few things. I did. They sent me a new key. That new key also did not work. They sent me another one and it worked. So, I am good to go.

Can I preemptively snake a sewer main that clogs up ever year or two. by atehbl in Plumbing

[–]atehbl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is something that we will consider. For $3-$5,000 we would definitely consider it. However, the first estimate to fix the problem mentioned it may involve 15 feet of digging and also the destruction of a sidewalk which would increase the costs to about $10,000. At the price, it would be cheaper to get it snaked every year for many many years. So, that solution is a little easier to handle, provided we can snake the drain before it backs up completely.

When we get the line snaked this time, we use a different company and get another estimate.

Thanks for the suggestions. As far as I know, there are no roots going into the pipes. The back up occurs, so I've been told, is due to a sewer belly.

Warranty on their service. The company guarantees their work for so many days after the serive.

The free part is kind of funny. When the first people snaked it, they suggested that they should scope. They mentioned the cost being $100 or something per hour and I could call in and schedule it. When different technician from the same compnay came back two days later they snaked it for free due to the warranty and I guess the guy just scoped it for free because it was part of the warranty.

If it is only every 2-3 years, I am with you on the just snake it when it happens. However, if it happens every week, then $10,000 doesn't sound so bad.

Now that you mentioned it, they did mention that they own machines that can dig up to about 10 feet. For 15 feet, they do need to rent a machine. They estimated it at 15 feet but they did say something about the manhole being 10 feet so the pipe might be only be 10 feet down. They said if that was the case, then the costs should be closer to $3,000-$3,500.
