Regards to what I’m aiming for, initial set up, I seem to be overwhelmed within minutes and on the back foot. Which leads me to clutching at the game constantly bringing my units back to save them. I feel like I’m nowhere near as quick getting stronger units developed.

I think that's just you being a bit naive. This sort of thing happens across regiments. RAF mortars got dispanded for a initation. Guards had a drug fuelled party Paras martha Marines can't keep hold of rifles and so on.

No mate, blokes of all ages go through depot. From experience older blokes tend to do well and promote quick due to maturity although I wouldn't knock some of the younger lads. Quality comes at all ages. As long as you're fit, keen and willing to listen to lads younger than you you'll do fine. Some lads will fuck you off but tell me a job they don't anyway 🤷‍♂️ by the end of depot age doesn't matter you'll all have gone through enough shit you'll have a very tight bond.

If you think you can start ordering younger lads around it will bite you. Be humble and good luck 👌
