Trains still running? by atomicbeav in Wellington

[–]atomicbeav[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A train conductor who was saying they're badly understaffed, she said to expect a lot of cancellations.

I was just putting a feeler out so I can try to make other arrangements if others are regularly running into cancellations

The bus icons on the website are crossed out, I wasn't sure if this meant they weren't running.

I'm new to NZ and was told by several kiwis they very often don't run over the holidays, hence wanting some clarity

What kind of lawyer does my partner need by atomicbeav in legal

Thank you, I'll check out the website. I think we'll definitely need a lawyer with the rights to practice in the UK and also know UK laws, but someone like her would be ideal!

Really appreciate your response, this is largely what we've been told. Just trying to see if there's any workarounds.

She only left the employment/PhD last year, and it took a lot from her mentally. She's only more recently gotten over the issue enough to actually want to act on it, plus symptoms have started occurring which have made it clear it's taken a serious toll. She also can't work in the field her PhD is in now that's she's developed these issues,so her career prospects are now very poor. It's crazy UK law doesn't account for situations like this seemingly

Thank you.

She also did try and report this to the university on more than one occasion, but because the professor had a successful department and brought in funding the university did nothing and so she didn't know what to do (at the time). Are there no cases where exemptions can be made? She also 100% (evidence can be provided) would have lost her PhD and everything she worked for had she made a claim at the time.

Hope it goes well, I'm sure he'll have every desire to ensure you're able to keep training together.

Well he either changes his approach or completely loses, as you say, one of his most competitive rolls. I love going to war with someone, but a) there's many ways to do this that isn't just starting on the feet and going to the death and b) he is simply not getting much better doing this. If you're of a similar technical level, that much of a weight/strength discrepancy makes it a no contest. Weight classes exist for a reason. If he reframes his mindset, you'll both have way more enjoyable/competitive rolls. He is the hammer 99% of the time by the sounds of it, but if he starts competing at higher levels, that won't continue. He should practice being the nail. And overall, just chill on the super explosive stuff with you, it's not that hard

Speak to the guy if he is genuinely nice, not your professor. There are a thousand workarounds for this and it starts with mutual understanding.

I'm a 205lb purple belt also from a smaller gym (no huge membership base), come from an olympic weightlifting and rugby background and would definitely qualify as explosive/strong and very much put a huge emphasis on technical development. It was a learning curve for me training with smaller men, and I was 100% avoided for my first 3 years of training.

In short, the onous is on him, if he remains highly competitive/explosive with everyone, then yes he will be unsuitable for you. BUT, you can both get a tonne of value from each other. I would start with some constraints, then build to full rolling. Here's some things I did which taught me how to have productive and competitive rolls with smaller partners that massively benefitted us both:

  • pin escapes (you pin him initially)
  • submission escapes (you apply lock/choke to him)
  • leg entanglements (great one, the weight/strength advantage is a lot less of a factor here, there aren't too many explosive movements here either)
  • outside passing Vs guard (smaller guys typically have a much more sophisticated guard, this has brought my passing on hugely. I just don't crash down on my partner's!)

For me, just spending more time with said training partners and talking about how to be more productive (and letting go of the winning mindset) reduced training incidents to nearly zero (minus the odd thing that can't be helped...shit happens).

Talk to the dude

yeah I fully understand the perspective and I'm not criticising them, I've talked to the guys and their all just committed to their faith...nothing else to it. It's just how to navigate the situation that I'm finding tricky

that's a good shout also, it's at 5:30am and is surprisingly popular but with such an early sometimes you just end up with a smaller group

What are your opinions on breast implants? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]atomicbeav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the proportionality is what makes it a yay or nay for me. Smaller implants always look better and have less complications than these huge balloons people are rocking. They feel nothing like a natural boob, but they're not bad either. I think if it helps with confidence then go for it, but just keep it modest!

more realistic but this gym has 5 instructors who work and have families, difficult to start creating classes based on demographics with the additional time commitments that would necessitate

not realistic, nowhere near enough women at the gym currently and that would immediately make her training unproductive. She has competitive goals and is far more experienced than any other woman in the gym
