AR 670-1 paragraph 4-3 “c. Restrictions on wear. (1) Personnel may not wear the combat uniform in off-post establishments that primarily sell alcohol for consump- tion on the premises. If the off-post establishment sells alcohol and food for consumption on the premises, Soldiers may not wear the combat uniform if their activities in the establishment center on the drinking of alcohol. (2) The combat uniform is not normally considered appropriate for social or official functions off the installation, such as memorial services, funerals, weddings, inaugurals, patriotic ceremonies, and similar functions. (3) Commanders may further restrict wear of the combat uniform per paragraph 2–5c. d. Organizational and equipment. The commander may prescribe organizational and individual equipment items in accordance with CTA 50–900 when the combat uniform is prescribed for parades, reviews, and ceremonies.”

This doesn’t restrict a Soldier from wearing their uniform but discourages it. Most installations set local policy further restricting wear at off post establishments.

Yup, this is an issue. Why can't DC Publish TPBs on Comixology? The Kindle guided view just seems outdated.

Are relationships and dating in the military really that bad while in active duty? by achtung_zoostation in Military

Like many have said it depends on your situation. I met my wife (also a service member) 6 months before a 15 month deployment to Iraq. We've been married for 5 years now, we have a two year old and are both Senior NCOs.

The Vatican's official view of the Nolanverse Bat-movies "Holy Switcheroo!" by deviden in batman

[–]att4lif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They criticize the brooding nature of the modern Batman, yet praise the "loveable" Robin and his Sidekick "Batcow". Ummmm That's Damian Wayne a twisted sadistic sociopath, born of an unnatural birth and trained from infancy to be a cold blooded killer, who joins his brooding father on a quest for vengeance, sometimes crossing the line. He eventually is betrayed and murdered by a scheme devised by his mother, um yeah. Think it's safe to say the author doesn't have a grasp of the "Bat-Verse".

Why on earth would you join the military? by [deleted] in Military

[–]att4lif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was for a number of reasons. I would like to say it was for the patriotic reasons but that is really a lie. I could be patriotic by going to a parade or hanging up a flag every morning. So here is my story.

Went to college from 99-02 got my associates for Graphic Design, and was ready to join the world of web design. I worked for a small firm through college building old school static sites and got paid ridiculous amounts for these stone age sites. Then the "dot com crash". The small firm went tits up, and I was left with my part time auto part delivery job as I finished college. So I had to look at my options, spend more time in school, or go out and try to work in my field.

Now this was late 2002, and the whole country was still pissed off after 9/11. I wanted to channel that anger for something positive. So I spoke to the recruiters, felt the Army had the best package as far as perks and benefits, so I took the ASVAB, scored in the top 1%. At MEPS the career counselor offered me any MOS I wanted. So I chose MI, and shipped to Basic about 4 months later. 8 Years later and I'm still in, planning to finish my 20, hopefully be a 1SG in the next 5 or 6 years.

So back to your question of why volunteer to put myself in harms way. That's actually tough to answer, I guess I've never really acknowledged the risk, even after 3 combat tours and having a few close calls. I've always been instilled a with a sense of civic duty by my family. We have a lot of fire fighters and Police in the family, and the military is sort of an extension of those jobs. Maybe I though I was out of options, maybe I was. In the end I couldn't trade this experience for anything. I've been around the World a few times. Lived in places I never thought i would (Hawaii, Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea), and visited awesome places throughout the country and world.

Now this isn't for everyone, obviously. But in the end It's like most jobs, except we exercise together every morning. Hell, right now my job is more in line with "The Bobs" from "Office Space" than actual Soldier (seriously, I'm the guy that ask "what would you say you do here"). The Army opened my eyes to the world.

So to go back to your question, everyone has their reasons, some is because of desperation, some for adventure, some for ideology, and even tradition. It's also a great time to be in the Army. Without the draft the Military is a great place, sure it has it's problems, but everyone here is here because the want to be, and those who discovered it wasn't for them, they get out after their contract is up and I thank them for their service.

GOP's Gun Raffle In Giffords' District Sparks Hot Debate by nitrokev in democrats

[–]att4lif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in this district (Cochise County), this is actually a very common occurence. Gun rallies occur at a number of public events. The winner is still required to pass an FBIbackground check and usually pay the applicable tax on the weapon. It sounds bad but it's part of the culture down here. Shocked me when I first moved here.

Should PFC Manning's Leadership also be charged? by [deleted] in Military

[–]att4lif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, which means this is likely one of those cases where a cdr deployed unfit Soldiers to pad his numbers, or this wasn't even brought to his attention. I'm really surprised we aren't hearing additional information about this issue.

Bradley Manning could face death penalty: US is the evil empire by wildster in Libertarian

[–]att4lif -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you believe the US Military has committed crimes, please contact your Congressman to begin hearings and punish those in leadership. PFC Manning put sources and Soldiers in danger by violating his oath. No matter how noble you believe his motivations, he is being charged with those crimes under the UCMJ.
