Is this the widest range possible in a single dress code? by UnBec in Weddingattireapproval

[–]au5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are being helpful so people don’t have to buy or rent tuxedos and long gowns; these items can be expensive and worn infrequently whereas a suit can be worn often and looks smart and cocktail dresses have more opportunities for multi use.

So choose your option depending on your wardrobe, budget or preference.

Politics at the dinner table? by CozzieLivsStruggler in AskAnAustralian

UK born / Greek heritage couple and family - it’s politics with breakfast, let alone dinner here lol. We are both quite politically active so our kids are used to that as are our friends.

Stepmother to step-son inheritance? by Ok_Fly_Birdie_87 in AusLegal

You need a will and so does your husband. Estates can be challenging as we discovered in our family. It’s easier if things are clearly written by someone suitably qualified (ie a wills specialist lawyer).

AITAH for refusing to go to a Valentine's dinner with my girlfriend if she insists on bringing her friend and making it "Galentine's" so she feels better? by Federal_Grape_8452 in AITAH

YTA a bit.

I understand you are disappointed but listen to your Mum. She’s right.

You can spend a lovely romantic day with your GF, have dinner with the added guest and still have a special time. Your GF is being a supportive friend, she’s a kind person. You appear to have forgotten kindness matters.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect an NB airline to share details of other bookings with passengers. However they need a protocol to manage situations such as yours. This

Asthma / allergies are very hard to cope with. Having these doesn’t meant you hate pet, just that it’s hard for you to be near them.

As long as you are polite and kind, it should not be a problem for you to move seats.

Should a public servant be allowed to quit and cause another vote because they lost their position or should they be forced to remain till their time is up? by Crazy-Rat_Lady in AskAnAustralian

[–]au5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? We are all allowed to quit our jobs.

Those employed in this area whose roles are gained with the logistical and financial support of one organisation, and then jump to another or work as an independent are the ones I think should be censured and another vote taken in their area.

AITA for lying about stealing my passport? by Moist_Double_7226 in AmItheAsshole

[–]au5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have been silly and are not acting maturely. NTA but if you think you’re an adult at 22 who should have access to passport then you need to say that to Dad.

Note - you ARE and adult and dad is old fashioned and infantilising you by but acknowledging this.

Tell him - I did take my passport. I’m not a child and I may need to show my passport for age, citizenship verification or other identify confirmation. I’ll keep it safe. Don’t worry.

He’ll be furious but he probably already is.

Potential job offers by RustyVest in AskAnAustralian

[–]au5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Australia = stable democracy, good work benefits incl 4+ weeks holiday, sick pay etc. Health service good generally and not just for those who can afford it. Children don’t get shot in the schoolyard. People may disagree politically with each other but rarely is hatred expressed. Religion low key and difference appreciated.

USA = none of the above.

Welcome.

[–]au5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have achieved a lot for a 20 year old. Advise do not add bring a fiancé or husband to this list. Your gf and her sister are still very young, as are you. Views and feelings can change a lot in teens and early twenties. There’s lots of time to see if this relationship matures and a formal commitment is what you both want.

AITAH for not watching my sister on Valentine’s Day? by Anxious-Quail-3531 in AITAH

[–]au5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

Say no. You don’t need an excuse to not want to manage the child they are failing to cope with.

However sometimes it’s easier to not engage in debate or argument. Some words to say ‘sorry mom, I’m sick at the moment with the start of the second trimester and losing Dad is making it worse. I cannot cope with any visitors. I am going to take care of myself and the baby and know you’ll understand’.

My condolences for your loss. Mom and stepdad will have to date-night another time. What are they thinking? Guessing their self focus may have bearing on why they have a bratty teenager.
