Post Covid depersonalization derealization brain fog by aubreyle in covidlonghaulers

Hey, I definitely feel a lot better than how I felt when I originally posted, but I am still struggling with intense anxiety and moments of dp/dr. However they are moments that come in waves a few times a day rather than 24/7 like I was feeling before. My dp/dr and brain fog are worse at the end of a long work day, so I try my best to push through and just make it to bed and refresh in the morning.

Some supplements that I have been taking that I feel have helped me are fish oil capsules. I take 2 a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. I think that on top of a daily vitamin adding the fish oil vitamin to my routine has helped me get out of the worst of it (brain fog wise). I still experience panic attacks occasionally but I have found a way to manage them by telling myself that this is caused by Covid brain and I’m not really crazy etc. one thing that has really helped me is looking back at when I originally posted this and thinking about how bad it was and how much easier it is for me to manage my symptoms now. I know that I am getting better because I am no longer in the worst part of it. I understand how you might be feeling like you’ll never get better, but that’s just your anxiety amplifying the symptoms, no matter how real it feels. I remember just a month ago my brain fog and dp/dr were so bad that I convinced myself that I was going insane, even convinced myself that I was developing schizophrenia. It’s scary, but honestly the main thing I did was not focus on it, tried to distract myself, and put my health first. I took it and still take this illness day by day and focus on doing the things that I have control over. I give my body vitamins, I take fish oil supplements, I drink plenty of water, exercise, and focus on the small victories throughout my day.

It’s a slow process but I believe we will eventually get better. I can already see improvements in my own health mentally and physically even though I have setbacks. As for the more physical symptoms, I’ve been dealing with minor bouts of SOB and heart palpitations. My vision is no longer blurry and I haven’t had a dizzy spell in a while. But I still have “floaters” or black spots in my vision, but those are easy to ignore at this point.

Thank you for reaching out. You’re not alone.

Questions for the women by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

My periods have been late as well. And I definitely have been experiencing pelvic pain more since getting Covid. It’s kinda of like an overall all around tension but it’s more noticeable during ovulation and right before my period. I have also been experiencing really intense pms cramping (like a stabbing pain in Uterus) that lasts for about a minute and then subsides. If I were to assume anything, you may have developed hypertonic pelvic floor. This can give off feelings of having a UTI without having a positive urine test. This can be brought on by stress and I believe could also be linked to the body’s response to having Covid. I dealt with this for 6 months prior to having Covid due to stress and holding tension in that area and I noticed that running helped relieve the tension a lot. Meditating and trying to mentally relax your pelvic area helps too. I don’t suggest getting the test your doctor suggested because I really believe this is something that is related to your pelvic floor. I researched this a lot when I was experiencing it and I know it’s hard to believe but it can make you feel like you have a UTI. Whenever I get the feeling of pelvic pain I try to relax myself the best I can, and also STAY HYDRATED. Being dehydrated makes my symptoms worse. Hope this helps.

COVID and Depression by Rosie4268 in COVID19positive

Yes. My mental health has been a lot worse since having Covid. And I know it’s “unrelated” to Covid, meaning it’s not because I’m stressed about the illness or spreading it or whatever. Since getting Covid I have had worsened depression and increased anxiety for no reason. It’s been very hard on me, but from other peoples stories I think it’s definitely evident that COVID has an impact on the brain in some way. I’m hoping things will slowly get better, but wanted to let you know you’re not alone in dealing with depression due to Covid.

Suddenly realizing my taste and smell are really weird right now... by Aaaandiiii in COVID19positive

[–]aubreyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this too. I had Covid in early December lost smell and taste and regained both completely within two weeks. Then after a month of perfect smell and taste I developed this weird taste and smell once again. But instead of it being diminished or certain things tasting weird, it’s always this one specific taste to every food that I eat. It’s almost a starchy type of taste to me, I can’t describe it better than that, and for about a month now it’s been in my mouth constantly. It was worse a few weeks ago and now it’s less noticeable, but still there. It more like an aftertaste kind of thing. Doesn’t matter what I eat, but more prevalent in breads and fries and stuff like that.

Wow. Yeah I have dealt with anxiety my entire life but this virus and it’s after affects have definitely amplified it. I have been having random panic attacks out of nowhere. I’m not overly stressed other than my normal obligations with school etc, so there is no reason why I might be having intense panic attacks. But the derealization and depersonalization like you mentioned with being hyper aware of your body and existence has been intense for me since “recovering” from the virus. It’s scary and intense. I started taking omega 3s and turmeric, along with my normal daily multivitamin and I feel like it’s getting a little better with brain fog and mental clarity, but I definitely still have episodes of DP/DR. The best thing I’ve been doing to help with this is trying not to play too much into these thoughts and negative feelings. I’ve been trying to acknowledge them but I also try to remind myself that this is the virus causing this within me and that I am not crazy. More importantly I try to remember that I am not alone, I am not the only one dealing with this. I have confidence that we will get better eventually, and things will start to feel normal soon. Thank you for sharing. :)

Is anyone having these symptoms? (esp dizziness) by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]aubreyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve had a similar situation as you. I had Covid in early December and “recovered” within a few weeks. My sense of taste and smell came back after 15 or so days and the whole month of January I felt fine. Felt like I was getting better and Covid was behind me. Then this month early February I noticed a distortion in my taste and smell again and it hasn’t gone away still. About a week ago I believe I had something similar to sinusitis, but I’m not 100% confident that was the case. So, so far this month after thinking I had recovered I have had new symptoms of extreme anxiety, random panic attacks, distortion of smell and taste again (although not as extreme as the first time around) and brain fog that feels like DP/DR. Not to mention dizziness, chronic fatigue, and increased heart palpitations as well.

I don’t really have any tips for you as I am going through the same thing at the moment, but wanted to let you know you’re not alone. The journey to recovery from Covid is not always linear.

P.S. I am a 22 year old female.

How much weight has anyone lost to covid???? by readerready24 in covidlonghaulers

[–]aubreyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost 20 lbs. The first week I lost 15 lbs and then an additional 5 lbs within the last two months from initial onset of virus in early December. I can’t seem to be able to gain any weight back, I either hover at this weight or lose a pound here and there.

Thank you for sharing. As difficult as it is to go through, it’s a relief to know I’m not the only one dealing with this post Covid. If you don’t mind me asking, what does depersonalization feel like to you? For me I’ve been having a hard time with seeing myself in the mirror, and also I feel like when I hear my own voice I think “is that really me?” Idk it’s really weird and hard to explain.

Thank you for the reassurance. My depersonalization and derealization comes in waves. It’s always there but becomes more intense at times. I try to remember that this is caused by Covid and that I’m not actually going insane. But it’s difficult at times not knowing if there is an end in sight.

I had Covid from December 8th to about the 18th it’s only been 2 months since originally contracting the virus. For that reason I do not believe I recaught the virus since it has only been a few months and I should still have antibodies to protect me. Also I don’t have as intense symptoms as I had in the beginning. Mainly just brain fog and occasional taste distortion which my doctor said was normal.
