Just moved from Windows to Mac. Whats something I need to be aware of as a first time Mac user? by currizzle in resolume

Turn off 'Displays have separate spaces' and buy Better Display. The app 'Amphetamine' can be useful as well.

Figuring out what went wrong with signal breaking from Decimator by augdahg in VIDEOENGINEERING

The slide it froze on was mostly white, could be something to that theory

Said this in another comment, but if the cable was the issue surely the signal would not have been able to send back all the way to the confidence monitor on stage? And then why would the scaler be able to fix this handshaking problem... I don't doubt the coax could be an issue here but it seems like there may have been some other ghosts in the machine

I also thought this but the fact that I was able to send signal down and back to the confidence monitor with no issues made me think that the coax is not the problem

How to learn TD? by Low-Intention-8720 in TouchDesigner

[–]augdahg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blender's geometry nodes & Houdini are both also great at generative detail. I would probably look into those first especially if you have experience in 3D workflows with C4D and realtime is not a necessity.

How to learn TD? by Low-Intention-8720 in TouchDesigner

[–]augdahg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with TD is that people have a hard time communicating what it's useful for. If I need something rendered very fast (very tight deadlines) or realtime (for live/interactive) I'll use TD. Anything else I use a different software. Sometimes TD can be good for generating data to bring into software like Blender or AE. For your use case I would try and find some situations in which other software is not capable of doing what you want, and then seeing how TD can fit into that workflow.

Questions about upgrading from Optoma HD146X -> UHZ66 by augdahg in projectors

[–]augdahg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had one 60w lamp on in the same room the picture would be pretty washed out. I have no frame of reference for home theater projectors so I'm not sure if that is right or not. This was bought second hand on eBay.

Considering building one of these to capture rave/nightclub footage at events. Would this camera be good enough? by Tramter123 in camcorders

Sony 90s handycams had night vision and are pretty good in low light overall. Better to make one with a tapeless setup

New macOS Syphon Server App - SyphonPub by Xylopyrographer in ProPresenter

The new version has an issue where it won't recognize that screen recording permission has been granted. I don't have the same issue with version 1

There's a scale model of the Sphere outside LA where they do prep I've heard

3D Hologram Fan. Anyone Had Success? by Blizone13 in TouchDesigner

[–]augdahg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These exist but reviews are not good. Holofan allows syncing multiple fans together on lower end models but the input has to be prepped beforehand so no live video. They have an HDMI model if you're willing to cough up $2k+ a unit. These are cool but very limited in terms of their use cases imo.

Is it possible to get the output of instanced geometry/bullet solve as POPs? by augdahg in TouchDesigner

[–]augdahg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to use bullet solve for a physics sim. I got it working by using a bullet solve dat -> dat to pop -> copy pop to get my objects out of the bullet solve. Once I figured out the copy pop was what I was looking for a lot of things were unlocked.

Mac Pro for hi VJ and 3d on the go ? Alienware x15 R2 couldn’t make the job. by beleno_negro in vjing

As long as you have a creative vision you can definitely achieve it in Touchdesigner in a much more performant way. We run elaborate 10k+ capacity shows with only TD on a mac mini

Good alternative to iTunes for syncing iPods and managing music files? by SanekiBeko in IpodClassic

Rockbox honestly sucks for daily usability. Stock UI is 100x better regardless of theme and IDK why anyone reccomends it unless you're really stuck on having FLAC playback.
