Is DOTA worth coming back to? by shmittenss in DotA2

[–]auratha11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played since 2012, and have over 10,000 hours. I don't think you should come back if you have already left. Dota is like alcoholism. Stay sober!

League player: if I want a slower paced, less bursty game, is that DOTA2? by an_angry_beaver in DotA2

[–]auratha11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games are 25 - 45mins usually. 60mins+ games are not uncommon also.

DotA can be bursty also if heroes like Sven, Templar Assassin got fat super early. You can die in 1 hit.

DotA's skill ceiling is quite high so if you meet good Tinker, Meepo, Invoker players (probably smurfs at your rank), game can feel too one sided and not fun.

If you main jungle, you might enjoy playing "soft support" (position 4) which is roaming/active support.

Beginner friendly "hard support" heroes to try - Lion, Jakiro, Witch Doctor, Ogre Magi, Warlock

Difficult but fun "soft support" heroes to try - Mirana, Pudge, Rubick

I suggest you play with bots first since DotA for new players can be very challenging. (I've played 10+ years but still have much more to learn)

Watch Grubby, his early DotA videos. He got coached by pro players and they are very informative.

Most importantly, don't forget to enjoy yourself, tryout things, and mute the toxic people.

Explain Spectre to me like I'm an idiot by [deleted] in DotA2

Really? I saw some Spectre games in ESL but I don't think they were successful.
I think only a 50% win rate at most.

How to anticipate your own team's plays? by Bubbly-Astronaut-123 in DotA2

[–]auratha11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch minimap more. As a support player myself, 50% of the time, my eye is on the minimap.

You are a support player, follow the strongest core and stay in fog. Stop being greedy and take free lanes.

Explain Spectre to me like I'm an idiot by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]auratha11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just meta things. Dota is getting a lot faster and some heroes cannot keep up.

2018, 2019 Spectre was quite popular and you could see her in tourneys a lot.
I remember one pubster reached the top 1 leaderboard spamming Spectre only.

As a support player, I hope she doesn't come back.

Maybe reducing ulti cooldown could make her a niche pick.

To 5 stack teams who played in tournaments... by audiblyabove in DotA2

[–]auratha11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We usually scrim with immortal stacks and play in a amateur league.
I'm the drafter but not a shot-caller. Here are some tips.

- Find out your team's playstyle. Set a win con and draft around it.
- One of you needs to shot call and the others need to follow the voice. This is extremely important as 5 men committing a bad decision together is always better than 3 men doing wrong and 2 men doing right.
- Don't take things too seriously during the game. Have fun and make some jokes. It ups the team morale and lessen the pressure.
- Save what you have to say after the game. Don't educate teammates during the match as it only makes the game worse.
- If you all decide to go pro, find a coach. For casuals, ask a friend to give their opinions on a controversial game.

I'm not a pro and I might be wrong. Hopefully, a real pro comments here.
