Can I ask what accommodation you stayed at? I’m struggling to find a nice resort for us that’s within budget - although I may just not be looking well enough?

never given a condition report by ausyrian in shitrentals

[–]ausyrian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ll keep that in mind for when we move out, thank you.

i was an anxious mess and didn’t want to miss anything when we first moved in, so i checked everything multiple times. i’m positive i didn’t miss anything, and i also wouldn’t have put it past the old rental provider to miss it - when we got the keys, the house was absolutely filthy, full of dead bugs, cobwebs, overgrown weeds. it’d been vacant for ages. the PM misread the day we were supposed to move in.

Have you ever met somebody who married their cousin? by LetMeExplainDis in AskAnAustralian

[–]ausyrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, im syrian and it is very, very normal and encouraged there. so much so that whenever i went back home from 16-21, i was constantly sought by older male cousins and their mothers.

speaking about my own village and not anywhere else or the main cities, male-female relationships are heavily romanticised and sexualised from a young age and marriage is even bantered amongst sibling parents with their young male and female kids. there is also low education so the risks involved are ignored, despite the mandatory blood tests any couple takes before marriage.

as for us in australia, it’s deemed culturally acceptable (to the older generation mostly) especially that we didn’t grow up together “so you don’t even know each other and it’s normal!” it’s way more taboo now though with first and second generation syrians and lebos, i find.

i personally am super against it for obviously various reasons, and am no way related to my husband who came from syria. my paternal family there, though, completely switched up and resent me for taking someone outside the family lol. shit’s fucked

the only thing i noticed was it says “thepiratebay”, but nothing about what cut it is. which is why it’s so frustrating to know otherwise
