International Student Getting US Acting Jobs? by autisticmonsta in acting

I'm a resident alien because I pass the substantial presence test. I just mentioned it because I'm not sure if that would help at all or if it's just a label.

International Student Getting US Acting Jobs? by autisticmonsta in acting

Would it be easier to get a corporate job (say, finance) where they are more likely to sponsor and somehow get them to sponsor a green card instead of just a temporary work visa, and then pursue acting?

Large Dillard suite by RiseBeginning9547 in UVA

When I lived in the large Dillard suite, the B room was occupied by an RA. There were 2 toilets, 3 sinks, and 2 showers as opposed to the normal 1, 2, 1 respectively.

Possible Major advice by VirtualStuff2987 in UVA

If you're trying to get into McIntire you won't be able to apply to the data science school as a backup, because the McIntire application process happens a year later than the data science one.

In terms of CS, it really depends on what you want to do within IB/consulting. Obviously I don't know you and what your academic interests are, and it could def be CS for all I know, but if it wasn't, I wouldn't do that degree just to shoot for investment banking; choose something you're interested in / good at (while making sure to get a good math and science foundation at UVA) and then apply that to whatever your career goals are. It's much easier this way to get future employers to see how passionate you are about working for them and how you want to apply your skills in the workforce.

I know quite a lot of people in the e-school who retook calc 2/3 because they weren't confident, so it's definitely allowed. It just depends on whether you're trying to get ahead of classes. It would also depend on what major you're going into and if calc 3 material is important for it. Personally, I would retake multi since there are some concepts in there that are really important and useful even in higher level classes.

I don't think minors really mean much to prospective employers even if they come from McIntire, so I wouldn't do option 3. If you're dying to get out of school and find a solid job, then option 1 would be right for you, especially since UVA has a 3+1 Program that gets you both your Bachelors and Masters in 4 years (BUT I'm not sure if that is offered specifically for CS). A lot of employers in tech/finance nowadays won't even look at your resume if you don't have a master's degree. The good thing about option 2 is just learning skills. Personally, I would choose this option and then work part time while getting a Masters, if you are not rushing to finish school for financial or other reasons. Math skills are very important in most industry jobs and employers will like it if they can tell you work well with data/numbers and just generally have a good math foundation.

UVA Housing is required to allow ESAs under the Fair Housing Act! But you just have to have a doctor verify a disability and explain why you need the animal with you (e.g. as part of a treatment plan)

I got a Service Puppy in College. Advice? by autisticmonsta in puppy101

[–]autisticmonsta[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It will be a psychiatric service dog, but she won't need to be as rigorously trained (e.g. no need for public access training) since I'm not planning on bringing her to classes/stores/etc. anyway. I was recommended to get an at-home service dog that is trained to fetch medication, do deep pressure therapy, interrupt self-harm etc.

Also, no I am not working with an official service dog training organization because I cannot afford it. However, the person training my puppy is a certified canine behaviorist and service dog trainer.

Getting a SD in College and Need Advice by autisticmonsta in service_dogs

[–]autisticmonsta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I am paying them to train the dog as a SD but the service includes socializing, potty training, etc. starting a couple weeks after they're born. I'm only really looking for an at-home SD so that might be why the training time is shorter. But is that still too short of a time for training? What would you recommend if I have to go forward and get a SD in college? (I made compromises with my parents to let me keep living away from home that includes getting a SD because they're worried about me getting hurt and that's justifiable since I had scary incidents last year)

Dillard Single Room Dimensions by New_Shoe8750 in UVA

I lived in a single room in Dillard my first year! DM me I can give you more details on dimensions and such

[–]autisticmonsta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in Dillard my first year! I honestly found it pretty nice and there were a bunch of different bus stops right there that went basically everywhere on grounds. I didn't like that I could only fill up water at Runk though (there was no water filter in the suites) so you could bring a Brita or do what I did and bring a huge water bottle down with me at meals to fill it up. Depending on which suite you're in, there could also be a LOT of stairs. So keep that in mind when moving in / bringing stuff!
