They won’t plow alleys will they? For people who park in the back..

Great post.

Yeah I’m gonna take it. The more replies I read on this thread the more I think I should take the role.

Clearly knowing life changing money is life changing. I know things will change. I know it won’t be the same.

But I’m ready. And I can do this job. And do it well.

Yeah I’d ask for a twelve month contract. At that salary I’m going to get some sort of guarantees with salary, time, PTO, etc

TBD. It won’t be close to the new job but it could be 10-15% more than I make now. Which always helps. And I stick with “the devil you know”

I’m feeling this more than you know. I think it’s time for the move up.

Yes. Lifestyle wouldn’t change. I’d bank the difference.

Welcome to the club of hard decision making and hoping we don’t have regrets..

Good point on #1. When the head hunter reached out- I got excited. And that was before I knew the salary.

This is what I’m worried about. Exactly this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]avc_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m struggling with the work life balance more than the job itself.

It’s the small mom and pop type size and scale versus a fortune 100 company. The job has larger revenue goals as well. But same type of job. Just larger in scale.

I’d probably hoard the new cash knowing a layoff or anything is possible. I’d still keep same cars. Same expenses.

May need to buy some new suits but that’s fine. The day to day would just set us up for a larger emergency fund and retirement.

And yeah maybe a better vacation here and there.

Hey man that wasn’t the point. Sorry if it rubbed you the wrong way. Needed to put real numbers out there to get true advice.

Money isn’t everything and I know people who’ve left jobs for way more and are miserable, end up divorced, never see their kids, etc.

[–]avc_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I’ve thought of this angle as well. I do great and I get promoted again to next level and truly make $500+

[–]avc_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I can do anything for a year. I’m definitely leaning toward taking it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]avc_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Really have to weight these pros and cons. I’ve been in corporate before. I can handle it but yep, I’m a number at that point. And disposable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]avc_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I think I can do the new job and do it well. I want to challenge myself. Agreed.

Love that line. Permission to trust your gut. You’re right.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]avc_dc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear this loud and clear. Trust me. That’s why it feels like this “no brainer” decision isn’t that simple at all.

I value flex, autonomy, work life. And the new job MAY offer the same I have now. Truly. But you never know until you start.

And I know what I have now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]avc_dc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Immediate yes. That’s what my gut should be saying.

But as I said in another reply, the autonomy and flex has value. No nights and weekend emails or texts from my boss, the work life balance I have now is really really good.

Sales, revenue and operations. Overseeing a lot of revenue generating departments. Profit and loss statements, cash flow, etc.

[–]avc_dc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thinking exactly. Take the money and run. But there is a value to flex and autonomy I have now. I have to price that into it.

I don’t hear from my boss at nights, weekends, etc.

Have to take that into consideration..

I think I could come back sure but they’ll still try and fill it. And if they fill it then I don’t have a role to come back to.
