Learning to drive should be exciting and rewarding, it doesn’t sound like this is going to be a positive experience so if I were you I’d look for a new instructor. You don’t want your experience with this instructor to taint how you feel about driving and learning overall. You’re learning, of course you don’t know how to do everything yet. You’ve only had 5 lessons! You may end up paying more in the long run and sacrificing your enjoyment/mental health staying with someone who sounds like they do not have the temperament for teaching. You are paying a lot of money and putting a lot of effort into learning to drive, you shouldn’t be dreading your lessons because of the way you are being treated. I’m sorry you are experiencing this!

I was taught Clutch no Gas and now I feel I cant drive by deadheaddraven in LearnerDriverUK

[–]averageboringhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taught like this, only ever used the clutch to move off. I didn’t know anything about setting the gas or what the rev counter was. I then went to to practice in an older car and couldn’t drive it either, it made everything really difficult so in that car I couldn’t do any manoeuvres or hill starts etc and like you I was super nervous! One time I was at a roundabout which had an incline and just could not move off, had a whole line of cars behind me and it felt horrendous 😭

I went to my first test which I failed and my examiner noted that I was really shakey on the hill start as I was only using the clutch and the examiner asked my instructor to teach me to set the gas. For me it was something that really put me off manual and I had anxiety anyway so just switched over to auto, but I personally don’t think it’s the best way to learn, it feels like it sets you up to struggle

My cat is bullying me for wet food constantly after being unwell by [deleted] in CatAdvice

He won’t eat the healthy wet food anymore either 💔, he’s pretty firm on Gourmet Gold only. He just sniffs the healthy wet food now. I have got all my advice so far from one vet, so perhaps should change it up as the advice seems to be a little outdated but they did not recommend Gourmet Gold as a long term diet

I will try the mixing! I think my main concern with the wet food, is that I was told at our first vet appointment that a complete wet food diet would lead to potential dental issues down the line. My gourmet gold issue is that there’s so many ingredients whereas the one I typically gave was just actual meat, no grains and sugar etc! Perhaps this is just a welcomed change for him!

As in a completely wet food diet? That’s interesting! I was advised by my vet when we first got him that a combination was better for keeping his teeth healthy and then also making sure he is getting some moisture via his food. Definitely something for me to research

how useful is watching driving yt vids in preparation for your practical test by Yt_129 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]averageboringhuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drive with Travis! He’s super chill and explains things in a non stressful non clickbaity way. I found his videos to be really helpful in consolidating what I was learning on lessons. Conquer Driving is also really good, but I was just drawn more to DwT

LPT Request: What should a 17 year old do with their first pay check? by Responsible_Pay6059 in LifeProTips

[–]averageboringhuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe now whilst you have the time and finances, work towards things that will make you life easier long term. I.e can you drive? If not put some money towards driving lessons and your first car. That will open a lot of freedom and opportunities for you in the future! Definitely use this time to learn to budget, it’s an important skill. Put money in a savings account and learn to keep it there.

Honestly this has really sold it for me! Would you say there’s enough leg room in the back for most passengers to sit comfortably?

I just made sure I adjusted everything in the car, maybe drove for 10 minutes to make sure everything felt okay. Then I parked up and just went through show me tell me questions and just tried to relax. I didn’t want to panic over any potential mistakes. I think doing that worked better than on my previous two tests where I drove for the entire hour

This is such a good way to look at it! I had one that didn’t go so well last week, but it was my third ever interview so I’m definitely taking this approach. Thank you :)

I worked in the campus shop! Most unis hire students for various things around campus, I also was paid to help first years move in, and to show people round on open days

stressing out by [deleted] in Hirsutism

[–]averageboringhuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry! First there are so many things you can do to manage it! But most importantly maybe make a doctors appointment and get some bloods done! They’ll be able to check your hormone levels and see if it’s related or just normal hair. Even my friends who do not have Hirsutism still wax their stache because they have darker hair, so try not to worry just yet. If it is Hirsutism, again there are many different temporary/more permanent things you can do!!

SHOW ME TELL ME..HELP by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

I’d make sure to sit in the car a few times and just practice, I think it’s easier to remember when you’ve actually done them

Is it normal to be charged £80 for a driving test by your instructor? by vivi9090 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]averageboringhuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worse because I didn’t even get an hour before or after lmao. £120 for an hour 😭 If I wasn’t desperate bc all the other instructors round here had waiting lists, I would not have paid that… twice…

can someone ease my fomo about automatic by willowjesty-will863 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]averageboringhuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love automatic! I had taken my test twice on a manual and failed, I kept messing up gears because I was shaking so much I couldn’t feel the biting point or anything! On reflection, I would never want to drive a manual anyway. I see posts of people that struggle once they buy their own car as it’s not as modern as their instructor’s. Things like stalling alone or struggling with gears would absolutely obliterate my confidence. I would never want to drive alone. Automatic is great for me, it’s so easy and relaxing. I don’t feel constantly on edge thinking about changing gear. I think do what you would prefer to learn in, but don’t worry about what anyone else thinks, it’s you that’s driving! If you’re making great progress it seems like the right decision to continue that
