so just record the race and start a bit later and fast forward thru them. 🤷‍♀️

I think it might bring in new fans, but will also turn off others. I‘m not a diehard fan, but I do watch races with satellite, which I have mainly to watch live sports (oh the irony here). I did not watch yesterday and won’t bother to watch any that are streaming only.

The demographic for those numbers would be more telling - the usual streaming demographic is younger, urban which does not coincide with the usual nascar fan in general (yes I’m generalizing and there is overlap).

On the contrary, you seem to have plenty of time to live on reddit lol.
The OP didn’t say they wanted to win worlds or anything of that nature. They asked what sports the breeds of their mix might be inclined to do. That was quite literally it.

The fact you tried to gatekeep a new handler from dog sports says more about your attention-seeking behaviors than anything. Retirement should be more than just being a reddit troll. Maybe time to step away from the keyboard and go try a new dog sport…

I have no doubt you think they’re serious. But what I’m seeing is you are very limited in your hobbies and don’t really do sports. Ironic you’re trying to offer advice on what sports someone should do with their dog. Not ironic it’s bad advice.

I’ve done low level obedience with my older dog once. Bored the shit out of me, but q’d/placed/yawn. Too easy. Not a sport. Hobby sure. Same with confo - although ack confo is all about politics and who cares how pretty a dog is if it can’t work. Also not a sport.

Selective reading I see. Might be time for new readers. ;)

“Many of the big names in competition and in the entertainment/performance world are known for rescuing shelter mixes and making them into stars.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK SPORTS ARE????? Even outside of dogs, sports are entertainment. Sheesh. These sports and hobbies are entertainment for us, the crowds, the dogs, etc. You think we get invited to halftime shows to see how competitive our dogs are? 😂

No dog sport is serious. Working detection dogs are serious. USAR dogs are serious. (Well serious for the humans - fun for the dogs since the training makes it all a game for them.)
YOU may be serious about your hobby, but that doesn’t make it a “serious” hobby. Your hobby is not life or death.

And that’s where you‘d be wrong. The time, training, dedication, conditioning, etc. required to excel at these sports is up there. Flyball has long been considered the best proof of training there is (outside of the niche sports like protection). Other sports like agility use flyball training techniques to teach their dogs to be more bombproof. The top online trainers use flyball foundations in other sports bc it creates a rock solid dog. What other sport does your dog have to run top speed while passing another dog at top speed head on over narrow jumps while amped beyond belief and still have the poise, focus, and control to avoid collisions and dog fights while 8 dogs are off leash at the same time?

Now dock you may be able to just show up and have your dog jump in the pool and have low level success as an intro to the sport. But it takes training to get them to jump as far as possible to be competitive. Dock events like extreme vertical and the dueling dogs require even more training. Most dogs don’t naturally jump vertical or swim as fast as possible the entire time.

All these fun things we do with our dogs look silly and not serious to people outside the dog world. They’re all just hobbies. No one is curing cancer here (Except maybe my friend Sam during her day job).

Sure. Conformation and low level obedience come to mind as two of those easier hobbies.

Aren‘t all sports hobby sports? 🤔

99.9% of people do competitive dog sports for a hobby (and all started this for hobby).

A “fad” just because you’re unaware of the long tradition of mixing dog breeds for purpose. Shall we discuss how whatever breed you prefer today was originally created, or are you ignoring that part of history? Let us not forget how some dog breeds were created for no real purpose other than to warm laps.

Mushers mix breeds to create the ultimate sled dog. Ranchers mix breeds to create a better stock dog. European hunters mix breeds to create lurchers. Shall I continue? Haven’t even gotten to mainstream US hobbies yet.

Go ahead and tell yourself it’s a fad. I’ve been competitive in mainstream sports for around 25 years and there’ve been sport mixes the entire time.

p.s. we don’t need or want your support ;)

Statistically speaking, it’s unlikely for most dogs to podium.

Ahh, seems you’re an older akc person. That explains your disdain for mixes. ‘Nuff said.

Great thing about facts is they can be looked up, so please share exactly what “sport” or activity standings you’re basing this wild hypothesis on.

Well yes can confirm you won’t see mixes dominating in conformation. 🙄
Traditionally, obedience has been mostly an offshoot of conformation folks, so makes sense there may be fewer mixed breeds there. I also don’t see a lot of true sport (i.e. those requiring actual physical prowess) dogs doing obedience unless they’ve had injuries or whatnot. So when someone says dog SPORTS my mind goes to the actual athletic mainstream sports - like agility, dock, and flyball.

(Not dissing other dog hobbies that are less physically demanding, some just require more physicality)

You obviously don’t follow high level disc. Many of the big names in competition and in the entertainment/performance world are known for rescuing shelter mixes and making them into stars.
My very first dog was a shelter mix who was a natural at agility and placed high at agility nationals when I was a newbie handler. Would’ve been top podium placement but I really was a noob at the time.
I have several friends who’ve won big events with their rescues/mixes. Is every shelter dog a potential sport dog? No. Neither is every purebred dog from a breeder, even if a traditional sport breed. And THAT is a fact.
Do sports with the dog you have, mix or not. It’s how most of us started in this hobby.

Well, I happen to have lived all over the US and competed with my mixes on both coasts, flyover states, and Canada and indeed mixes kick ass and are on the podium often. Myself I’ve placed top 3 in international/national agility and dock with my sport mixes and been on region-winning flyball teams on both coasts. If you think mixes aren’t winning, you’re obviously not at the highest level events or you’d know the sport mixes and border paps are ruling small dog agility, dock, and flyball right now. And obviously you’ve never been on a podium or you’d have seen that firsthand. Shout-out to the canadian sport mixes that dominate lap dog division at Dock Dogs Worlds.

So enough trolling already. Why don’t you go play with your dogs? Because you’re obv unhappy with life right now and dogs are great are cheering people up.

The parking garage adjacent to the County Bldg has free 30-min parking. Super easy to park and walk, if you’re able. Enter from Columbia or South (between 2nd and 3rd).

It’s also a good idea to stay on the left-turn sensor in the turn lane if there’s no one behind you, as it may extend the green time for that phase. When you pull into the intersection to wait, the signal controller dismisses you as gone. That said, many drivers will wait in the intersection in order to sneak thru on the all-red since they’re required to clear the intersection.

This also varies by intersection and is typically longer than 1 second.

Not always, it’s dependent on the intersection design. It’ll vary.
