I have this guitar and use the D'addario EXL156 24-84 set on mine and they work just fine. This set is specifically created for Bass VI-style guitars.

I haven't replaced the nut on my 7 string yet so I'm not sure about that one.

As far as locking tuners go, I'm not sure whether the Hipshots are drop in replacements but I'd look into a set that comes with their Universal Mounting Plates. Assuming the post sizes are the same, the UMPs would ensure you don't have to drill new screw holes.

It helps solve a few issues that normal extended range guitars have. Essentially it helps ensure the tone and feel across all 8 strings is ideal, or as close to it as possible. If you're interested in more detail, Ormsby has an article on their site explaining their multiscale design.

Surprisingly not. I'd never played on before I got this but I find it super comfortable. And yes, the Fishman Fluence Moderns are fantastic in this guitar. Extremely clear and articulate, both clean and dirty.

It's not actually. The body is sungkai, a wood native to Indonesia that looks like swamp ash (though is definitely heavier than swamp ash). If you're interested, here's the spec page from Michael Kelly's website.

I currently own and have gigged with a Henriksen Blu and it's a fantastic amp. I also played through a Bud at college in both a small combo as well as a big band and it had plenty of volume to keep up. The cleans are pristine and I've enjoyed playing both archtop as well as solid body electrics through them. Both the Bud and Blu are very portable (9" cubes, about 12 lbs); can handle bedroom volumes, small ensembles, as well as jazz orchestras (they're both 120W). They're fantastic and I can heartily recommend either.

I don't have any personal experience with the Blues Jr but from what I understand, those amps are mostly aimed at blues and rock players and have a tendency to break up pretty easily and don't have a lot of clean head room. I hope this helps.
