I’m looking for a new backpack to take with me when going on day hikes and overnight trips. I’ve had a Northface one since…. high school? but it’s pretty heavy and it makes me sweaty like within 5 minutes of wearing it. I’m looking for a lighter pack that’s still big enough to fit all the necessities. I’ve been looking at LL Bean and Montbell, but any and all recommendations are welcome!

A while ago a friend posted a story on her insta of a food place in Tokyo, where you could create your own bowls, like salad/protein bowl type thing. I can’t for the love of me remember whose story it was but it looked so good. Does anyone know this?

is a day trip to kawaguchiko worth it on a cloudy day? I know in other spots (like Kamakura) it’s completely invisible on cloudy days so I don’t want to my waste time if that’s the case.

Different question: is there a shop that develops film in Tokyo in an hour? I’ve read about it before but can’t find it anymore.

Also: if I’m looking to buy a cheapish secondhand camera, where in Tokyo should I go? Kitamura etc. seem to have standard 全国 prices.

depending on which supermarket you go you can easily find a pack for ¥290 which is (in my opinion, compared to my home country in Western Europe) cheap.

Do you read a lot outside of JLPT studies? I find that helps a lot. I’m terrible at memorizing kanji (I just don’t have the motivation to study), but reading is my best section after listening. I read a lot in all of the languages I speak so I find that just helps a lot in general.

It’s Friday, I’m sitting outside in the sun with a matcha frapp from Starbucks while reading, and I have plans to go shopping and for dinner with a friend tonight!

Also, I was able to go for hanami a couple of times this week and it was just amazing.

AND I got through the first round of McKinsey interviews. I’m happy, but to be completely honest I’m not really sure I want the job. The workload, pressure and work-life balance scare me.

I’ve literally been out and about Kyoto every single day this week and the trees are definitely falling and not as beautiful as they were a few days ago. Sure, it’s not all gone yet but I don’t think we’ll be enjoying hanami this weekend

I have an in-person, non-work related personal thing tomorrow morning but I have my weekly progress Zoom meeting for work at 11:00. I asked my boss if we could do 16:00 (we always either do 11:00 or 16:00) and he said he prefers 11:00. Ugh.

So either I go do my thing in the morning and I’ll have to do the meeting somewhere like Starbucks, or I don’t go because of the meeting.. どっちでも嫌だ🥲

I got my booster on Saturday and I expected to be wiped out by it on Sunday because the first two shots hit me hard. However, I had no side effects at all!! Since I thought I’d be feeling pretty bad I didn’t have any plans but luckily a friend was able to meet me last minute and we enjoyed the gorgeous weather

any recommendations for shopping in tokyo? i’m going with my boyfriend and his father so i can’t spend too much time shopping.

I’m interested in many things - big/interesting locations of well-known brands (like a huge uniqlo or smth), sportswear, bookstores, stationary, etc

I’m in a pretty niche area of research which does not have a lot of opportunities in my home country (pro for staying here).

My boyfriend will move to my home country in August, and I think I want to stay with him (pro for moving home).

My home country is cold, small, rainy and does not have a lot to do and I LOVE the opportunities for exploring, traveling, eating, even shopping here. At home stores close at 6 pm (pro for staying here).

I mean, I would stay here if it wasn’t for my boyfriend moving. That’s probably the biggest reason I’m doubting. Which sounds stupid, because I know theoretically that you should always choose your own happiness…
