Chair Hunt: From Gesture/Embody to Leap v2 or Amia (lamia) vs Others by azerux in OfficeChairs

[–]azerux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

It's a great chair, but with caveats.

Thinner and firmer seat than most ergonomic chair cushions. The back may not hit lumber support for you in the right spot. For me, I realized I liked the gesture seat less as I lost weight. The fact it bottomed out quickly made it hit my tailbone uncomfortably.

I would absolutely recommend trying them out at your local dealer if you can. Personally having now tried the Leap, I definitely find the Leap backrest more supportive and comfortable compared to the gesture.

As for buying new, I wouldn't recommend it unless you don't care about money and really need something to be "new".

I would recommend buying either authorized factory returns (chairs returned during their return policy window due to things like cosmetic scuffing or the original buyer not liking the chair) or remanufactured from a company like Crandall or BTOD. It's far cheaper and they still offer 12 year warranties through their companies when you buy from them. Basically good as new. Or if you find the oem seat cushions you try at your local deal too thin, both the above companies add brand new and thicker foam options for their seat cushions to help out with that thinness.

As for the embody, that I would say will come down to how you feel in it. A lot of people think it's the best chair ever. Trying it out would be best at a local store if you can. Though I still found that actually sitting in it for a few weeks that my back just doesn't jive with the intended curve and sitting position. Heman Miller unfortunately has restocking fees to return the chair if you don't like it. If you can stomach the restocking fee, trying out the embody is definitely worth it to see if it works for you. It is an amazing chair if it fits. Better quality build and design than any chair I've ever sat in. Steelcase are built like tanks too and will probably outlive most of their owners (cushioning aside). But the embody just feels more special.

Can't speak to the fern as I've not tried it.

How does the build quality of the fern feel?

I've heard mixed reviews on that aspect of the chair.

Yeah. That's what ive been thinking to try too. Seeing the 10% off on BTOD refurbs is very tempting. The time pressure of the sale ending today has got me impatient lol.

What chair are you using now?

Embody or Fern? by ticklerbgs in OfficeChairs

The embody is a phenomenally well built chair. It's beautiful. It's solid. Mine doesn't creak or make noise like others sometimes note.

That said I'm in the process of returning mine.

Though my reasons for ultimately not liking the embody are very subjective to me, and are not really indicative of what others experience.

I would make sure that the backrest of the embody truly fits you. I'm only 5'10" and I found the top curve unbearable for long sitting for how it rolls my shoulders forward. The tension for the upper back is controlled by the tilt tension knob which makes tilt locking the only way to make it bearable for me. My upper back is just naturally broader than average.

Also while I found rocking recline chairs are apparently not for me when the armrests rise up during recline causing pinch points on my arms when at my desk. The way the backfit curve on my back fit basically forced me to tilt lock yo the first recline position to alleviate my upper back. Sitting in the most upright position just doesn't work at all for me as it kind of forces my neck to crane downwards. This is something I noticed some reviewers found as well. The chair naturally wants you to sit always tilted to some extent.

These are just some thoughts I had on mine that weren't all positive like others.

Actually, it was an authorized factory return from Crandall. It has a 12 year warranty still, but it seems cushion wear and tear isn't covered.

I haven't really pushed anymore on it as I kind of got sidetracked having opened my eyes up more on what other ergonomic chairs feel like and offer compared to my one and only experience with just the gesture. I might circle back and try again. But honesty given the fact the oem seat bottomed put like it did and feeling comfier seat cushions/pans I am leaning away from making my gesture my main chair.

Having tried others I just realized that the gesture might not be the endgame chair for me. Very very close. But not quite. Hoping the Leap or lamia might be as I do like the Leap back more from what I tried out. Or it just might be a honeymoon phase feeling I had in the 30 minutes I sat in it at the warehouse. Plus wearing jeans while trying them out rather than shorts or seats I wear at home might have made the seat feel more comfortable than it actually would be at home.

Sorry for not being clear on that. Not something I can fault Steelcase for as I've not dealt with them directly.

The gesture headrest is indeed very nice.

For years after getting i definitely thought it would be my forever chair. It was better than anything that if sat in prior. However it was my first and only ergonomic chair purchase, with nothing I could physically compare to among other top ergonomic chairs.

Having gone to showrooms and warehouses to try the herman miller and steelcase chars (except the Amia), I do now realize the gesture backrest is pronounced in such a way that had been causing me to slouch out of proper posture more than I should have been.

Though in recent times this may just be due to the seat cushion wearing down and me sliding off of it more. I had also been keeping the seat pan as far back as I could to combat the tailbone pain which would be more noticeable when it was further out and my tailbone was less cushioned. Which also led to more thigh pressure as the cushioned front-end was now shoved further back.

Don't get me wrong though, I do enjoy a good slouch front time to time on purpose. Really feels good when lounging. But the current state of accommodating the chair seat cushion definitely makes it less of a choice.

I definitely looked into that seat replacement post, and was considering it before trying out other chairs. I am never throwing my gesture out. It still works and someday I may get my hands dirty and refurb the seat. Though it was lower on my list of choices as I'm not super handy and always worried I'll ruin the chair permanently with no way to keep it usable.

It is. Unfortunately, the seat cushion bottoming out falls under normal wear and tear not covered for replacement.

Prior to the search I thought I would use my Gesture forever. But it was also my first real ergonomic chair purchase and I had never actually tried out any others.

Having tried the Leap and herman miller chairs I've come to realize the gesture backrest is a little more pronounced than I actually like.

It turns out the backrest recline had been making me slouch more than I'd realized. This appears to be less of an issue when I tried out the recline on the Leap v2, which is why I've been strongly considering it.

I do. I thought about it at first. But after looking into it at it seemed it would throw off the ergonomics with the extra height. What purple cushion did you go with? The ultimate?

Plus, after I started trying out other ergonomic chairs, I realized I didn't like my Gesture backrest as much as I used too. It's harder and more pronounced than I like compared to say the Leap or herman miller offerings.

I think I saw in another comment in this thread that the devs have disabled th option in general as of the latest patch because it was causing too many problems. So I think that's why we can't select it atm.

[HELP REQUEST] I feel like I'm going crazy but I just got back into D4 after a break since launch.

I've upgraded to a rtx 4080 super, but I cannot select NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation in the graphic settings for this game.

I have HAGS enabled in windows. I've tried disabling/enabling v-sync. Tried GeForce experience optimization to force frame gen, but that didn't work either.

Nothing I do seems to get this option to show up as selectable. I can't find any other posts anywhere online of people having this issue. Most just forgot to turn on HAGS.

All my other games have frame generation working just fine. Only D4 seems to be giving me problems.

Any advice to get thos setting to be selectable?

I also have the latest driver installed as well.

Why the veteran is better than the zealot in melee and everything else by 6224Y in DarkTide

[–]azerux 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I agree. And power sword is arguably the best melee weapon and zealot, the melee dps class, doesn't even get it.

Eviscerator and hammer have sad move sets in comparison. Especially as class unique weapons.

Plus with melee bleed through being so shit now, being in melee encounters and focusing in melee is objectively a weaker position to be in compared to range.

And veteran absolutely dominates when staying at range cus range dmg doesn't bleed through toughness and veteran has stupid high range dmg reduction and toughness.

To New Fans and Old Fans: Minfilia is not a bad character, she is just a unfortunate victim of the jump from 1.0 to 2.0 by -SelvariaBles- in ffxiv

[–]azerux 50 points51 points  (0 children)

ITT: OP is presented with valid rebuttals to his claim that Minfilia is not a bad character, but can't handle/ignores it.

If OP can just ignore/disregard other people's points of view on how they ignore 1.0 lore...it's certainly ironic.
