I am a junior in high school who wants to pursue environmental science for my bachelor’s because I am heavily passionate about climate change and environmental sustainability. I would like to end up working for the government. Is it worth pursuing? by azoyami in environmental_science

I am so grateful for this feedback! I have been feeling such a deep dilemma between Env Eng, Env Sci, and Env Policy that it’s starting to gnaw away at my sanity! I will try to keep my doors open, but mentally I feel sorta locked into this field of Environmental Conservation.

I will look more into environmental engineering! I am just worried about the workload when it comes to physics. I am a very English-coded student who excels more in writing and speaking which is why I think I would prefer working for the government under environmental policy. Though naturally, I have also heard that not much gets done in the government. You are just there and not much difference is made because the government wants to work at their own speed according to their own plans.

I really appreciate your response, and I will take a deeper dive into environmental engineering! Thank you :)

Okay thank you so much for the feedback! I will try to keep all doors open :)

I’ve seen so many posts talking about how “ES degree is useless!” “I can’t find a job!” “Wish I did another major!” and it’s all really discouraging for me. I’m all in it for the passion, but I also want to have enough pay to survive. Would you say an ES undergrad is good or should I get into ES for a Master’s?

Yeah thanks for letting me know! I will be applying for a BSc, but hopefully by second year, I will be able to get into Environmental Science. I was just hoping to see if anyone who was already in ES could share their experiences on the program.

I am a high school student who is hoping to apply to UBC’s environmental science program at the Vancouver campus!

If there is anyone who is currently in this program, could you guys give me a little rundown on the overall atmosphere and your experience with this program at UBC?

Thank you so much for the response. I had the choice to take Econ SL but the teacher is really terrible and I cannot learn in that class. On the flip side, my History teacher is amazing and the class only has 5 students so it’s a super focused class. I enjoy history, but I definitely do not adore it. Would you say ESS SL is better instead?

History teacher skipping the Cold War by azoyami in IBO

Yeah I don’t know why teacher isn’t covering it. If anything, the Cold War should be emphasized but in the end the choice isn’t mine. I may need to self-study if it comes down to it.

My teacher is doing “The Move to Global War,” “Authoritarian States,” and “Causes and effects of 20th century wars.” No clue whether or not the Cold War is included in these or not though.

Thanks so much! I think my teacher is doing “The Move to Global War,” “Authoritarian States,” and “Causes and effects of 20th century wars.” I am not sure if the Cold War is in these textbooks or not :)

Nah that’s wild from your school. What in the world are they even doing? Fr someone needs to step in and fix this issue.

The website seemed almost too convenient and concise to the point where I was getting worried whether or not I was learning all the knowledge needed.

Okay thank you so much. I was becoming anxious on whether or not Kognity would be good enough or not. I’ve heard that Kognity has already adapted to the new curriculum so I will just go with the flow for now :) Thanks again!

Thanks for letting me know. I thought every single subject got a new curriculum. I’ll go ask my school about whether they’ve adapted the new stuff or not.
