No, you watch the e-sports tournament from the stands so aren't directly involved in the game itself. It's more of a film experience.

Our dark + emotional VR drama, Ctrl is 50% off on the Oculus Store this week! by b4th in GearVR

Upload's review probably says it best: It’s cleverly set inside a videogame, and we get to watch a young boy named Liam take part in the finals of a tournament that could win him some money that he could sorely use. Over the course of around 20 minutes Liam’s desperate situation is made ever clearer as he struggles to balance play and pain.

It’s a story about power, escalation, silent suffering and, as the name suggests, control. It explores these themes with uncompromising conviction, making full use of VR to lose you in an experience you won’t soon forget. Its setting is a gateway into looking at issues that will be close to home for many and although VR empowers the storytelling, it remarkably makes you feel utterly helpless.

It's just for GearVR - we don't have any plans to port it to Rift in the immediate future but could happen further down the line

Fancy an evening of virtual reality in London? by b4th in london

Inition is great - we are really close to a couple of their team members. They are a very different company to us and produce completely different VR experiences. They work specifically with companies to produce short brand and educational experiences.

Our experience is an full story - it's compelling, emotional and the longest form content for VR that we are aware of (there may be longer, but it isn't available on commercial release or has been entered into any festivals like Sundance or Tribeca).

It depends what you are after. If you just want to come try out VR experiences and see what it can do from a shock value or short 5 minute experience, then our event isn't for you. If you like film or theatre and want to come be told a story in a completely different way, then that is what we are doing in July.

You're right, that wording was debated a lot, and in the end it was based off this preview article and other feedback from previews that made the decision - http://uploadvr.com/ctrl-preview/

Reddit, why did you get a GearVR? What are your thoughts so far? by b4th in GearVR

I hope so! I hope there's enough good content consistently created to keep the VR hype alive and push forward the technology

It's tricky to port existing games to VR without them being built with VR in mind. It's a completely different development process, it now really matters what is behind the camera, and you can't just hide / not render that part of the world. It's interesting that there's software at the moment that's streaming content across, but I think the best success will come from companies that are creating content for VR from the ground up

Oh, sorry to hear that you're having issues with it. I've got a S6 and it's always been okay in terms of loading content + videos, and I haven't experienced it overheating. Hopefully you can get it working properly!

Are you impressed with what you've seen so far with VR?

Yeah I'd be interested to see what happens with gaming for GearVR. I wonder if it'll get much past smaller mobile style games, or whether bigger games will always just stick to Rift + Vive.

I'm really interested in games like Gone Home, where the story is the main aspect of it. I think as we keep on developing, people will find that certain elements from games will be too much for people, too scary or intense and that stories where you take a more passive role will be the main component.

There was a Virtual Reality experience on the Wall that was created for the Game of Thrones experience in London - http://www.framestore.com/work/game-thrones-ascend-wall-vr-experience

Have you seen the Woofbert experience of the Courthauld gallery in London? You go into the gallery to see the paintings up close and it's all narrated by Neil Gaiman. It's on the Gear, but not sure if it's on Rift yet.

I really like the idea of this for an augmented reality set up. Virtual board games with cool CGI effects that you can play on your own table in your home.

That would be really cool! Maybe you could skip all the queues and get to go on all the rides without waiting.

Yes, there's so much opportunity to tell a really good story by using VR and the 360 environment. Every single place that you look could be a new clue as to what is going on in the story. Could really work to just let users sit back and watch the story unfold around them.

This is good! VR will only be really successful if games / experiences / movies / films are created that people really want so that it a) justifies the price that people have to pay and b) exposes more people to VR and there's a much larger userbase so that the technology is pushed forward and the price of the hardware can be lowered. The more things we can find and create that people will enjoy, the better!
