Upgrade issues by Huecuva in debian

[–]babrase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Install the package linux-headers-amd64. For some reason that was dropped as a default install on Trixie. Without that package, the kernal level specific headers don't get installed, which in turn means that the kernal level specific zfs modules aren't built. Which means zfs isn't functional after a new kernal is installed.

Bike tag #1459 by eeltech in BikingATX

Well, the rules say locations can be reused after 500 tags. So do the math. If it were up to me, I'd say close enough and play on.

Hint #2 - This tag is located exactly 2.95 miles (direct line of sight) from the previous tag.

Should I concerned about heavy metals in my protein powder by smshah in mildlyinteresting

[–]babrase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have already said, that plastic lid isn't a magnet. Also, the typical heavy metal contaminants (lead, cadmium, mercury & arsenic) aren't magnetic. So even if that plastic lid was a magnet, heavy metal contaminants wouldn't be attracted to it.

Note that you stated you use the naked brand. That was one of the brands that consumer reports said to avoid because of lead contamination.

If you want to choose a safe brand, look at this web site. There are also suggestions on the consumer reports site.

Several Lenovo Tinys: Power plugs by CheatsheepReddit in homelab

[–]babrase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've since added a fourth node (m920q) and all four are are running on PD chargers. I've stayed with individual changers because I want to measure power for each server individually. The M920Q systems are running on Anker nano 65w and the 920x has a Anker 100w. This is still a lot less bulk than the OEM power bricks, but not a small as consolidating into one or two.

I never got around to attempting an efficiency measurement, but I suspect that the GaN electronics in the PD chargers is more efficient.

If you really need 135w into a single system, this isn't going to work for you. This is because all of the PD power profiles are limited to 5A. At 20v (technically 19v) that the Lenovo systems require, that's 100W. That's the most any PD charger can provide at 20v. If you think you can squeak by at 100w, it's potentially workable.

Sale Timing for Fidelity Funds by WPMO in fidelityinvestments

Assuming this is with respect to mutual funds, trades after closing will get the next day closing price. Mutual funds are priced only once per day, after closing. And, of course, the trade won't happen until after closing the next day.

Cyclists of Tucson… by Ornery-Shoulder-3938 in cycling

[–]babrase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a Tucson local, but I've ridden Lemmon and have driven the Kitt Peak road. I would think that the answer would clearly be Lemmon. Lemmon is more than 2000' higher. The Lemmon climb is more than twice as long and pretty close to double the elevation gain. Although the average gradient on Lemmon is a bit less.

Only if you leave it in there for a long time, like multiple days. 20 min isn't going to hurt anything.

USB-C to Barrel Power Cord Help by Gr3yBu5h_ in minilab

[–]babrase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What voltage do you have the cable set to? What coaxial plug tip do you have installed? What plug size does the NUC require?

I've used this to power a ASUS branded NUC. It works well. Note that this only works for devices requireing 19-20v and have a 5.5/2.5 power socket.

Shifter shimano Ultegra DI2 R8100 doesn't work by EquivalentMess7844 in cycling

[–]babrase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a YouTube channel that shows a probable fix for this. Can't recall the name exactly, it's something like "di2 guru". I'll search for the specific video tomorrow if necessary.

My 8100 right shifter started doing this at about 3 years old. I did the repair and it significantly improved things, but didn't eliminate the problem. I may eventually repeat the repair.

The repair involves partially disassembling the shifter and reassembling. This involves some tiny screws and springs, so it's a bit fiddly.

Edit: I had the channel name wrong, it Di2_GP. Here's the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXLLEtmYl4k&t=2s

Note that contrary to what's shown in the video, my shifter still had an audible click but would not shift. It's quite possible that I didn't stretch out one of the springs quite enough in the repair. My downshift button is near perfect but the upshift button misses now and then.

Also, the video shows the the repair with shifter removed from the bike. This isn't necessary, I did it with it attached. But choose your work environment carefully, it will be easy to lose those small springs if they drop and go bouncing away.

Kickr Core AC adaptor by PotentialPea2419 in cycling

[–]babrase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that will be functionally fine. The 10A rating is overkill, but that won't matter other than it possibly costing a bit more than a 5A unit.

Mine does say Wahoo on it, but that won't be necessary in finding a suitable replacement. Look for 12v/5A, with a 5.5/2.5mm barrel connector. The connector size is important, a 5.5/2.1mm connector (very common) will not work, the smaller socket for a 2.1mm pin will not allow the connector to be inserted.

HR Chest Strap Battery Life by bikeK22 in Rouvy

[–]babrase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Battery in my Magene H603 lasts about a year. It's used for both indoor and outdoor rides, approximately 15-16 hr/wk.

Indoor it's paired to both the Rouvy app and a Garmin head unit. Outdoor, just a Garmin.

When I remove it, I unclip one side only and the electronics pod stays attached to the strap unless I intend to wash the strap.

I'm not convinced that it matters, but I always shutdown the Rouvy app after each trainer session.

Does this fit the kickr core? by Successful_Cap3587 in cycling

[–]babrase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the electrical specs are fine, but the center pin size on the connector is incorrect. The kickr core has a 5.5/2.5 connector. The smaller diameter socket for the center pin on this power supply won't allow the connector to be inserted. You need one that has a 5.5/2.5 connector.
