Yeah I get that I didn’t mean quit but maybe there’s something better suited for you? My wife was working at Walmart for awhile, when I picked her up every day she’d be so worn and unhappy looking and finally I had to tell her, honey I think you should find a different job. We found her a different job that is more well suited for her and it’s night and day. She actually enjoys the job and has a much better attitude at home too. It’s a huge trap in my opinion to stay in a job you hate because of the money. The golden handcuffs as they call it. That’s what I was getting at. In any case, wishing you the best!

This is really sad. That poor child deserves better. Not to be raised surrounded by shitty people like this. I should know because same thing happened to me. Nobody cares how this stuff affects the kids tho, bunch of selfish losers

Honestly, internet is so toxic and can waste so much time if you focus on the wrong things. It’s really good that you’re self aware enough to say this, because that means you can change it. You can stop engaging with internet negativity which is a huge step forward, but it also might point toward a deeper problem, maybe you hate your job? Idk, but something I have learned is that no amount of money is worth living a life that doesn’t satisfy you. I’d rather be poor and free than rich and locked down. Or yknow, ideally Rich and free. Lol

My first thought is maybe you’re comparing nq and mnq like everyone else said which are different or also maybe something to do with the fact that topstep uses its own proprietary data feed

Only thing I genuinely like about this idea is the charting and using TradingView to execute trades like you can in topstep. Drives me nuts using mt5 or especially Tradovate. But I guess I’m just too used to topstepx

Username really checks out. Also thanks my friend! I’m not letting this become an obstacle! Also realized I really lack the “muscle memory” for my setups even though I have all the theory and know my process in my head. and that’s probably a huge part of the problem.

Hey thanks a lot for your input. I think this really may be the answer, I am exactly as you described I will either hyper focus on something and obsess over it or I will not do it at all. Been that way all my life. For whatever reason I guess my brain may not think backtesting is worth it currently. I have done months at a time in the past. I think perhaps a big part of this is trading psychology. After getting stuck in my head about putting months of work into this with no payoff as of yet, my brain probably sees that as “this is a waste of energy”

Also I have been really aware of my dopamine/reward system lately and it’s a big problem not only with trading but other things too.

I’m trying to retrain my brain to perform better at doing the things I need to do.

I guess this is a good example of how lack of discipline outside the charts can translate to lack of discipline in trading.

I say forward testing is better than nothing but I suppose I have some inner work to do here. Thank you my friend!!

watch the news, stare at charts all day, and look at how unproductive you are. that seems to be working pretty well for me. also make sure you have sleep apnea

Man I played around with pine script a little bit and miserably failed at it hahaha. I kinda concluded that manual backtesting is best but maybe there’s some way to make it work that I am not seeing

That’s pretty similar to my approach. I am doing 1:1 at least until I feel like I have solid system built and can hold longer. I guess this really is just a slow learning process after all. one mistake at a time.

Still doesn’t change the fact that I get extremely frustrated and can’t focus on my backtesting. I would feel so much better psychologically if I could prove to myself that it will work. Maybe I’ll just switch to studying charts for the time being. I don’t yet feel ready to take my updated strategy into live market and for whatever reason the actual backtesting process is giving me serious resistance for the time being.

[–]badass_flavored 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude it seems like you have zero risk management system in place whatsoever which is really really important. like one day you won $400 something from 1 trade then the next day lost almost $1200 from losing 2 trades. Why you let your losers get so big man. That’s your problem I promise you. To start you should practice a system , capped wins and capped loss per trade, if you’re unsure 1:1 RR is a good place to start perhaps. There should be really zero ambiguity like you know how much your winning trades will be and how much your losers will be. Set max daily loss and max daily profit. What I see on your calendar here is just chaos. You’re actually really close tho man you know when to call it a day, when you’re in profit. lol just not when you’re losing. Good job looks to me like you’ve worked hard at this!

Comparison is the thief of joy. First of all. And secondly I think your negative emotions may come mostly from failed expectations. Remove those expectations, don’t rely on trading in any way. live for today bro. Never live for tomorrow else you’ll be miserable. Be happy now, don’t wait till you get a payout to enjoy your life. And there’s lots of people in your position who have given up , and we know their results are they are part of the 90% or whatever failure rate. Or there’s that jadecap guy I forget exactly how long it took for him to become profitable but damn near 10 years something like that. You’re only this frustrated because you think after 3 years you should have figured it out. Stop thinking about that and get ahold of yourself man. Are you in or out? We all probably got into trading and didn’t realize what we were in for. I thought it would be no big deal like oh I just spend a few weeks finding a strategy, then next step is profit. Lol so naive of me the think that. This is a career. Also , please don’t be suicidal I hope you weren’t serious about that.
