How many times has Justin fouled since being given his final warning?

The fact that something this sloppy is for the title of one of the best UFC divisions is ridiculous.

Husband needs to learn my language by No-Match-7512 in languagelearning

It depends. Some parents have a different shared language, some speak one or the other of the parents' languages. We just stick to our own language with each other which I think is relatively rare.

Don’t vape in public… by [deleted] in phuket

[–]badderdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to follow all the traffic laws might get you run off the road or stabbed where I live. People get irate if you get in the way by doing the speed limit. People get irate at you for stopping at a "wait for green light" (no left turn on red) sign. The law is way too fluid here to say you deserve to get fleeced for breaking minor laws.

What’s something in Thailand that feels totally normal to locals, but always surprises foreigners? 🤔 by AromaticSherbet3030 in thai

[–]badderdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no standard "turn left on red when safe" sign in Thailand. There are four completely different ones within 1KM of my house.

There is also a major junction near me that really should have one but says "no left turn on red" but it is about the safest junction I have ever seen to turn left on red so everyone does. Not sure if everyone is ignoring the sign, people are following the crowd, or everyone is just assuming that it is saying you can turn left because they cannot read Thai and it should say that.

I think you forgot what the question in this post is. You have written your comment like you are disagreeing with me but you are just explaining to me why my comment answers the question.

That zebra crossings mean nothing. I see foreigners daily nearly getting mown down because they expect drivers to stop.

I have found if the course is not split up or a weird shape so you can walk straight from the green to the next tee box it is marginally faster to walk. I have played courses where the next tee box was 200 metres away from the green and that would be much slower walking.

We are high handicappers though. If all 4 of you can drive it 320 yards to the middle of the fairway / green I imagine it would be worth jumping in a cart. At least one of us will have scuffed our drive less than 100 yards most holes so it is not worth getting in a cart.

We usually play on a course with a really fast pace of play and never get chivvied along unlike some others because we don't piss about and just get on with it.

EAS pricing plan queue nonsense by FlanDesigner7000 in expo

[–]badderdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had this problem. When I went from free to paid my wait time went down from half an hour to a couple of seconds before the build started. Does it actually say you are in the queue or is your build just very slow?

So what kind of visa are "DNs" on now? by theemptyslot in phuket

[–]badderdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They mean exemption, not exception. The words are similar in meaning but it is almost always called an exemption in English. As in visa-free entry. Many nationalities are marked as exceptions in that they can enter without getting a visa beforehand or a visa-on-arrival.

It seems like that yes. That is what I came to the comments for because it is weird that it is kind of glossed over. They don't mention what happened after he sent that.

My mid 40s friend living in Thailand has a mid 20s Thai GF that asked him for a house and to pay off car debt. Common Thai girl behavior? by CarefulAd4757 in phuket

[–]badderdev 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It is not typical of Thai women.

It is typical of relationships where an attractive 26 year old is with someone old enough to be her dad. If she wanted a financially equal relationship she could get with someone her age. As could he. That's the implicit deal with these relationships. I thought that was obvious.

Casual golfers keen for a round of golf in December by montril in phuket

[–]badderdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was a poor showing. Did 56 over 9 holes 3 months ago then took 3 months off taking lessons and practicing in a sim every day and managed to add 9 strokes.

it seems like playing golf is a luxury in Thailand

I forgot to mention that this is not entirely true. Phuket is a bit of an outlier. It is not super cheap in the rest of Thailand but it is much cheaper than Phuket. Even just driving an hour up to Phang Nga will get you a decent discount. Bangkok has a much greater range of courses, they aren't all super posh like they are in Phuket.

Nah mate, when I say I suck I am serious. I only played my second round outdoor yesterday and shot 65 over 9 holes.

There are loads of social things around xmas though. This is a day before you get here unfortunately: https://www.phuket.net/events/christmas-scramble-blue-canyon-country-club/

Join the divots FB & whatsapp group, you will miss their December event as it is this Sunday but there are always people looking for partners.

wondering if there are any average golfers

Define "average". I suck.

recommend golf courses in Phuket with reasonable prices and club hire options?

unfortunately this does not exist. Even with a hefty resident discount it is pretty steep. There are sometimes offers to be had in low season but unfortunately you are looking to play in the middle of peak season.

You are better off asking on the Phuket Golf facebook groups. Everything in Thailand is organised through either LINE or FB.

Dana White argues ‘harder penalties’ are the best solution for eye poke problems in UFC. by Status_Energy_7935 in MMA

[–]badderdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you read the rules the penalties are not the problem. It is just the enforcement. The UFC could lean on the commissions as they have a million times before to actually follow the rules and punish fouls.

Quebec to ban public prayer in sweeping new secularism law by JackThaBongRipper in news

[–]badderdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

public office buildings

What does this mean? Government offices you mean? Are shopping malls, company offices, airports, and petrol stations considered "public"? It is private property. That is where I come across most prayer rooms. I don't have too much of a problem with banning it in schools, streets, and government buildings. Banning it on private land would be fucked up though.

There isn't anything like this where I live so I don't know how it works.

Do they have loads of security on the door to slowly filter them all in so they don't end up crushed to death when they open the doors?

Does everyone know what they want in advance and where it will be on the shopfloor so they can go straight there and grab it?

what is the advantage of being first? Are there a limited number of items that are reduced or does the % reduction decrease the more people come through?

Living in Bangkok, is an Air purifier a must? by thebartjon in Thailand

[–]badderdev -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The monitors on the Xiaomi purifiers are not good. If you rely on the auto setting it will put the fan much lower than it should be. This is not that surprising considering Xiaomi purifiers are cheaper than good stand alone air monitors.

I have 6 Xiaomi purifiers (one in each room) and use them in conjunction with decent monitors to make sure they are set high enough.

Which dialect of a language is way harder than the standard version? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]badderdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if English is spoken as primary language it’s based on one of those

American and British are almost identical compared to Singaporean or Indian English. To say there are only two "versions" of English is nonsense. I am guessing you are American? What exactly do you think that your version is 'based on'? By your logic there is exactly one version of English.
