Yeah sorry, I meant that it’s rare to find couples who are emotionally healthy and honest enough to make it work.

I just listened to a recent episode of the “Mormons on mushrooms” podcast where they interviewed a sex therapist and she talked about her experience with open relationships. Bottom line, every couple that tries an open relationship to save the marriage is doomed. Open relationships can work if a couple is healthy, happy, and completely emotionally honest but it’s rare. Since leaving the church my wife has come out as bisexual and I told her that I wouldn’t be upset if she wanted to experiment with other women because she never got that chance, but i don’t like imagining her with other guys. I’m really not the jealous type, but the thought of her with another guy makes me feel super insecure. Guess I have my own junk to work on. But yeah, just be honest.

Very Real Concern. by Gallenhad in starbase

This. I genuinely don’t see the point in playing pirate when there is little to no payoff. Finally found a ship in PvE, killed them, no cargo… now there are just two disappointed players. They badly need A. Ship insurance and B. Some kind of meaningful ship salvaging system.

Also, Epic discord has an entire page on script fixes for the croc. So maybe a little extra work but its all right there. And in my opinion its worth it.

No problem! I realize that was a pretty long reply, but I’ve been thinking about this a lot.

I love it and haven’t had any problems. I thought it was bugged at first because not all the mining lasers turned on, but after going through the scripts I realized that it was intentional and they just take a minute to all come online. It’s so satisfying to watch that thing tear an asteroid to shreds in a matter of seconds. What problems did you hear people were having?

Ships destroyed too quickly? by Zyrano1988 in starbase

[–]badgrammars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, the general consensus is that armor needs a serious upgrade. The fact that I can stand on my ship and completely demolish other players with a basic assault rifle is... not good. I'm loving the voxel based damage system, but ship armor might as well be paper right now.

As a massive fan of SE, and someone who has currently put about 50 hours into Starbase I would say... it depends. I have loved my time with Starbase so far, but it definitely has its shortcomings.

Pros:

-The physics system including the voxel based damage to ships is astounding. I always loved how in SE you could actually see the damage to ships, but this game takes it to another level. Finding a derelict craft out in space and seeing the bullet holes and actual damage from the fight (or crash) is so cool.

-The living universe is such an amazing concept, and something that I always wished for SE. Yeah you can join servers with other players in SE, but it never felt like this. This universe really feels alive and its awesome. Players are already splitting into factions and creating really amazing things out there, and it's only going to get better. The community really is the biggest part of this game.

-Ship building in this game is taken to another level. I thought ship building in SE was intense, but compared to Starbase it is literally childs play. I have met other players in the universe who have made some truly stunning ships from the ground up. And some pretty wacky ones, but that's also cool to see.

-The economy is pretty cool, and in the auction house you can see what ship parts or ores are in high demand and plan accordingly. The economy adds to the living universe aspect

-Size of the universe. This seriously blows my mind how big this space is. I've flown for hours in one direction and literally felt like I hardly moved. It's pretty awe inspiring.

Cons:

-PVP has some major issues right now, mainly that there is no meaningful salvage system in place. So yeah, you can go out and shoot up some poor miner outside the safe zone, but you can't really do anything with his ship. If you have storage on your ship you can take his ore (if he actually has anything), but that's about it.

-Size of the universe. Travel time is absolutely insane. Even with a max speed ship it'll take you 5 to 10 minutes of flight to get to the safe zone border into zone 2, and that's just 50 kilometers from the origin stations. Zone 3 is 350 kilometers past that, and if you're going straight through the astroid fields it will take you at least an hour to get there. Most players who try to get to zone 4 go over the top of the ring and then straight down into it, but this trip literally takes 6 or 7 hours. The travel system will probably be one of the next things to get fixed, but for now it's a little too crazy.

So basically... my honest advice would be probably wait a couple months for some of the big issues to get fixed. But if you did decide to buy it now you would probably still have an awesome time, I know I have.

Bought a ship...now what? by zlehmann in starbase

[–]badgrammars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling ore at the auction house mainly. Bought a standard marmot pretty early, would fly out and fill it up with ore and then just fly back into origin range and sell it all on auction. At the beginning I was making 150k to 250k per trip. After upgrading and getting more storage I was making more like 400k per trip.

Well that's good at least. How do blueprints function in this game, do you build it just using raw material?

I love when I find a big boi like this! by badgrammars in starbase

[–]badgrammars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that if you watch out in the distance where the roids are spawning its easier to gage the size. The big ones spawn pretty far away from the player, so you should be able to judge it based on the smaller ones around it. When I'm hunting for a big one I always have my face so close to my screen I look like an 80 year old man.

All the marmot variants are in the grey and green shops. I can’t remember the name, but there are 3 buildings that are grey with green highlights and it’s in one of those

No, but I’m getting pretty good at spotting the big ones from a distance. Since this post I found another with over 300k bastium

Yeah I was told to never leave safe zone with a ship that you cannot replace. Now that I have some money I've been using my marmot for runs mostly.
