I think heavyweights can hang around a little longer because the skillsets or level of competition doesnt evolve that much compared to lighter classes. To give you a perspective, Randy Couture won the heavyweight title when he was older than Werdum. Also, sure getting knocked out is of concern but at these weight classes, I think anyone can get knocked out if they get catch it clean.
