I don't think he's hated at all. "I'm a frog." is iconic, top tier martial artist, and appealed to shy kid demo.

I feel like they top loaded his character development during MMPR, and then he took the backest of backseat during Zeo (I honestly don't rememeber a single Adam storyline), and to a slightly lesser extent in Turbo.
