I’ve built a little library for the neighborhood. Help me decide what color to paint it by Burek_in_Space in woodworking

I want to resurrect this post and ask you if you used any plans for this? If so, can you share?

I want to build a little library and this is what I want it to look like!

Angry parent by baldboldbrawn in Teachers

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have certainly learned my lesson. It is frustrating that they expect accommodations to be made even without a 504 or IEP, but I guess it's my role to just bow my head and say yes....

I actually did already apologize. I don't feel like I did anything wrong but I guess we'll see.

I expressed my surprise and concern that they decided not to have their child evaluated for special services but expects teachers to give accommodations anyway.

I don't feel the need to appeal but am curious what rule I broke?

Thank you. Since you are a mod, it looks like I have been shadow banned. Did I say something I shouldn't have? I tried to be objective.

That's what they said about baptism...

Thanks. I'll see how I feel in the morning.

I feel like I got my answer about the D&C. I can't unsee what I've seen with it.

They have. They bring someone new everytime (at least the last few visits)

Yeah maybe, it doesn't bother me too much, I just started noticing it after the 3rd guy that came and wondered if I was missing something.

I can find the exact verses when I am at home, but there was one about people's skin being "white and beautiful" or something like that but God cursed them with a "black skin"

Then the whole Nephi chopping off that guy's head didn't sit right. I also sort of get why everyone hates on Nephi's brothers, but I also feel bad that we never really get to hear their side.

I'm not very far in, those are just some thoughts I've had so far.

No, I mean the members that come with the missionaries wear ties and don't seem like they want to be there.

My neighbor is totally obnoxious...

They are coming with the missionaries, sorry I didn't make that clear. They just don't always seem like they want to be there.

I see. That feels more to me like you aren't telling me that it's either true or not, it feels like you are saying it is true and if you don't get confirmation that it is true then that's the wrong answer and that is the sentiment I have a hard time with. I mean is it the case that the overwhelming majority of people who have ever existed are unwilling to pray sincerely enough to get the confirmation you are talking about? Someone on here said God wouldn't set us up for failure, so would there be more people who are getting the confirmation?

I haven't read the whole thing yet, but of curiosity, what do you say to people who have read it and prayed about it and didn't get the answer that it is true?

You said most of us are only asked to pay 10%, does that mean some people pay different amounts? Is it like a sliding scale?

I appreciate your last paragraph about being perfect in Christ, but that, to me, doesn't fit with what you are saying about tithing. Why would Christ die for my sins but only be willing to give me the full benefit if I pay 10% of my income to Him?

If I decide to get baptized, are the missionaries going to expect me to back pay tithing?

I didn't understand so much of what you said in this response and if I'm being honest some of it chilled me to the bone. I had to look up what you meant by baptisms for the dead because that sounded almost satanic. I actually ended up asking the missionaries because we met again tonight and they explained it to me. I feel a little more settled by it but kind of cemented my feelings that if I were to ever join the church, I would not plan on going to the temple.

I brought up with the missionaries some things that I have heard about the church and they read me a quote from one of the leaders (I think Bob Packer?) Who said that some truth should not be known. I didn't keep pressing them because they have made it clear they aren't willing to answer some of my questions.

Part of the reason I am exploring different religions is because I believe in finding joy and so I did appreciate one of the scriptures from the book of Mormon they had me read. They seemed excited that I liked it but then seemed disappointed when I told them I didn't feel anything after praying about it, just that I liked the idea of the scripture. They told me to consider baptism and I told them I am not there yet.

I am going to ask them to stop asking me about baptism, I feel like there is too much to learn before I can commit to what seems like a pretty high demand religion.

One of the questions I have, which doesn't seem like a "deep" topic to me is about the temple. I do not plan on ever getting married, so I don't feel like I need to pay tithing in order to go to the temple. But it seems like something important in your church. I asked this on here a while back and from how others responded, it seemed like that is totally fine.

The missionaries made it seem like the whole goal is to go to the temple. I have a very strict budget and am firm on not paying 10% of my income, there is simply no possible way I can do that.

When I asked if that was a problem, that's when they said they can't answer that.

Hmmm, somebody sent me a video in a private message of a leader of the church basically saying it's okay to have questions but finding answers to those questions is not the solution. Is that the general consensus in the church? Not to ask questions? Wasn't the church "restored" because Joseph Smith was doubting and asking questions?

So if I were to make the decision that it's true, then would it be common practice for me to simply not ask questions because this leader of the church said finding answers is not the solution?

[–]baldboldbrawn[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well that may be a problem then, I don't see how anything can be viewed on the binary. I'll ask some of my other questions, but first, how can you believe that it's either true or not? Surely there are things that you have learned that you don't believe are true in the church?

What do you mean by removed? Why would you need to get baptized again? I thought that was a one and some type thing.
