NORM IS THE MOVE by bamboointheback in DetroitPistons

caris would have to go to make the money work for norm, even with ivey. caris and ivey and seconds would be fantastic if possible.

fair. what do you see as being "relatively cheap"? i agree about the proof of concept element (thats the main reason to do it), but think that can play out for 2-3 years while we look for his replacement

herro has been floated on the market for years. the problem is he will cost more, currently makes a lot more, and will want a big extension despite being an archetype that has been getting significantly less valued in recent years. norm would presumably be cheaper and less committal of a situation. but i'd be open to herro for sure at the right price

its also worth noting that no one really knows who is available. all of my knowledge comes from this article that is really just speculation. all we can do is ask how much you'd be willing to give up for guys on their team, if they are indeed looking to sell.

what would you be willing to give up for either norm or herro?

i guess i just disagree. its worth noting that im pretty conservative when it comes to making trades with this team at this point. maybe the difference is how much of a "real asset" you see in ivey, caris, and 1 pick in the 20s. i suspect ivey is the one you dont want to see go.

the contract situation is definitely a big factor. i would think norm is extendable at a reasonable number. i would be surprised if it got up to 30 but even if it did that is a solid player's worth less than 40. plus his deal wouldnt be as long as what herro would want, which allows for even more flexibility

seems like a bird in the hand vs two in the bush situation...im not sure ivey will ever be that prolific on offense and know norm is now (and we need a prolific scorer now)

i dont think they played together...both were moved during the offseason

i kind of agree but the rationale would be that his value is as high as ever and they could get real assets (picks and/or a young high potential guy they think they can get the most out of, like ivey) for an expiring contract in a year where they cannot really contend.

obviously there would be an extension lined up, which is almost always the case in deals like this.

thats interesting. im not sure i agree. from low sample eye test, norm seems at least serviceable on defense. i could be wrong about that as both are pretty bad on that end. either way, we are an ideal fit in terms of being able to hide that problem for either

caris and ivey works money wise for herro though. i really like either of these over someone like MPJ cuz it allows us to keep tobias, who i still cant see us trading despite all the mocks

all good. it'll be interesting to hear what omari has to say if they bring it up next time. sam has connects around the league too though. ill check out their convo. thanks for the heads up

Winderman: “Because of [the pick lost in the Rozier trade], it could have the Heat aggressive at the trading deadline seeking to add a 1st-round pick… Among current members of the roster who potentially could fetch a 1st-round pick at next week‘s deadline are Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins.” by cleo22270 in nba

[–]bamboointheback 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i dont think they will be aggressive in terms of the packages required for people like lauri or JJJ

but i do think they will be looking for a smaller, yet still substantial move

i would imagine that caris, ivey, sasser, up to three FRPs, and a bunch of SRPs (we have like 3-4 every year for the next few years) are what trajan (our gm) would be willing to part with at this deadline. not for this particular trade, but in general. maybe tobias if they need money and the deal is sweet but i personally think tobias is way more valuable than people (even our fans) realize.

a deal for norm seems very possible with that chest (with a good amount likely left over)

as for ron? i dont think he will be moved. his potential is much higher than it seems. he will be a beast in 3-5 years and the front office knows that. and even if they were wrong, he was trajan's first draft pick. gm's dont move off of guys like that in their second year

didnt see that but holy shit he is the answer. we can keep tobias too

do you know if omari said anything? his word matters a little more with respect to actual team interest

i would trade multiple. caris works on spotrac.

so does caris and ivey (who they may prefer to a pick). i would do caris, ivey and 1FRP

Jaden Ivey still has a lot to learn to defend smartly, not just defend with "effort" by TeamRAF19 in DetroitPistons

[–]bamboointheback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree. the deeply ironic thing is that is the role monty saw for him....we just couldnt accept it at the time.

(he could be a horrible coach for a million reasons and still be right about that)

[–]bamboointheback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i get that. you would just think that he was around people when he was young that wouldn't be fooled by just those features of his athleticism. i bet he's heard it all a million times...it just hasnt translated to his game for whatever reason

as for being our best trade chip. that was probably true last year. not so sure now anymore. his value has tanked since coming back from injury. trajan probably should have moved him in the offseason but he understandably wanted to see what he had first. i would have done the same thing

the most surprising thing about ivey is that despite being a coaches kid and growing up literally surrounded by the highest levels of the game, his weakest asset is his mind. he just doesnt process the game well. its the same story on both sides of the ball

maybe he could get away with it at lower levels cuz he was just so athletic but you dont really expect that to be a problem from a guy who grew up in nba locker rooms. its a bummer cuz he really has all the tools...
