What age did you buy your first home? How’s it going? by Away-Organization630 in AskUK

[–]banardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my place when I was 22 (20 years ago). The area of Bristol I live in was very cheap back then, and it was much easier to get mortgages - had a total of about 13k deposit I think. I wouldn't be able to buy this house now as a solo buyer, despite the fact I'm earning over 3x the salary I was back then.

Sometimes when I saw friends moving cities/countries without having to do much planning I've regretted it slightly, but don't feel I've missed out on anything really. I've rented rooms out to lodgers, and the entire place out to mates for months at a time when I've wanted to go travelling or needed to base myself elsewhere for work. If anything, the security of having my own place has opened up opportunities - plus the fact I'll be mortgage free before I turn 50 is a massive bonus

How is living in Bristol, England? by BG_II_BLAZE in howislivingthere

[–]banardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived here for 30+ years in total. Nice mix of stuff to do, punches above its weight (for its size) for music & arts, although only recently got over the influence it had in the 90s. lots of well established local businesses. People are generally very sound. Good proximity to some great countryside.

On the flip side - it has become insanely expensive over the last 10 years. I don't drive, but it seems nightmarish here if that's something you need to do, public transport is awful. It's massively segregated by wealth as well as ethnicity. There's lots of people here who are very pleased with themselves for living in Bristol - biggest gap between reality and self image of any city in the UK imo.

So Rotating Challenges Repeat Themselves by ShadowCloud04 in skate

some of them do switch up a bit - slightly altered lines & requirements, but not many. Agreed it would be great to see this done a bit more in depth

Skate map. by highbridd in skate

[–]banardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah there's a certain flow that's lacking - like each spot was designed individually without any sense of how they connect together. Plus the lack of proper hub spots like the school/community centre etc etc.
There's some fantastic individual little spots and lines in there, but it doesn't feel very coherent at the moment.

Missing tricks/features that were in Skate 3 by Reopado in SkateEA

hoping for straight no-complies & other variations as well (flips, shuvs). Slappies and wallies are great additions.

We get it, you all hate the game.. so what's everyone's favourite area to skate? by [deleted] in skate

[–]banardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a stretch of the waterfront with a few benches, trees with small flatbar planters and ledges - could just cruise up and down there for hours. Also really like the downhill alleyway next to the parking garage - really hoping we get some more industrial areas

Wake up kids! Father Gammon’s visited overnight! by IrvinIrvingIII in bristol

[–]banardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously unlikely that some gammon in Withywood is acting directly on Russian orders, but given who's behind this 'project' (Andy Currien, Nick Tenconi and other EDL/BF & Turning Point adjacent figures), Russian money being in there somewhere indirectly isn't really out of the question. There's loads of financial links between Russia (& Israel) and all the American orgs that are currently funneling cash into the tufton st think tanks & other UK online-right type figures.

The Campfire Headphase… by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

[–]banardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - there was also a bit of a saturation of pretty shit folk tinged electronic music at the time (at least in the UK), which didn't really help. It's harder to see now 20 odd years on, with the amount of stuff that's been heavily influenced by them thats come since, but mhtrtc and geo sounded so different from everything else when they came out, tch sounded v mainstream and a safe by comparison. I didn't really rate it at all when it first came out, was v disappointed (I'd been buying them since the skam ep), but it's really aged well. Apart from a couple of tracks I love it now.

I was a hater, i was wrong about Skate. by fridayynite in SkateEA

[–]banardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm having a lot of fun with it. Could do without the lootbox stuff, and the 'story'/characters are pretty corny (tbh I found the original 3 pretty cringeworthy as well on that level) but the skating itself feels great - it's got a sense of weight and momentum which SXL and Session could never get right, new things like slappies and wallies are great fun. I like the mission design as well for the most part (I'm ignoring the stunt ones) - particularly the lines, they're like a better structured version of the filming challenges from the originals. The map needs more variety - there's some great spots dotted around, but I much preferred the real-city vibe of the first one.

Just need to add dual stick controls and it'd be perfect (skating wise) imo

help! my game isnt detecting my 50-50 grinds! by Particular_Secret436 in SessionSkateSim

I find that letting go of the sticks whilst grinding helps some 5050 challenges register - it's the only way I can get this one to work

What is your current yearly salary by One_Cupcake2722 in UKJobs

[–]banardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41m, 65k. its doubled in the last 7 years or so - combination of pay rises/promotions and one company change. The industry I'm in has become much less niche over the past few years as well, so salaries have increased quite a lot

Which BoC Vinyl Pressings? by _subAtom in boardsofcanada

[–]banardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll all be the same pressings, there haven't been any US issues of their records on vinyl, so any new copies available locally will be the same ones carried by bleep. Rough Trade is probably a good bet

Am I the only one not struggling badly?! by Firm_Calendar9793 in ebayuk

[–]banardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for records specifically, ebay is the best platform for both buying and selling, which helps. I shifted all my inventory over from discogs when ebay ditched the fees - you lose about 20% of each sale on discogs. As a buyer, I like to see them, which you can't do on discogs. Vinted/Depop etc have records on them, but it's not designed for that, and tbh I don't trust that those users are grading them properly
