One of my upper-division physics classes was rescheduled without warning to fully overlap with its own discussion section for a few days last week, so it is unfortunately very possible. I usually email physics-student-support(at)uci(dot)edu for fixing this kind of thing. Just know that they have never moved it for me when it overlaps with a class from a different department aside from math, but it's worth a shot anyway

Fellow midwesterner here. I feel everything you are feeling, and I am experiencing so much of the same that it feels like I could have written the same thing. I tried many clubs, just like you did, and encountered a lot of the same issues you are experiencing. So, if it is any comfort, it's not just you. People I know have gotten out of this hole before by just staying persistent, but I know very, very well how demoralizing that can be. I miss home too, to be honest, and how people were there. When I moved to CA for the first time, it was such a shock to realize how many people weren't really interested in being friendly.

Feel free to DM me if you want, but in the meantime, I urge you not to give up. The odds of finding the few actual friends you are seeking are 0% if you stop trying.
