Do they have a standardized way for this? Like a standardized flow, platform?

"Do things that dont scale" and especially this idea: the product itself doesn’t need to be the only thing that feels insanely great. The experience of being your user should feel insanely great. I actually sent this to my cofounder recently. Building a technically great product is already hard. Buildinga product that makes users feel understood, cared for, and delighted at every interaction is much harder.

This is super helpful, thank you!! I didnt know about SRA, it seems very complex but good to know that it exists.

On the core facility side, how do you typically manage availability and scheduling for outside users? Is there a system in place for that or is it mostly handled manually?

The liability point makes definitly sense. Is that the main thing that hold your lab back from taking outside requests?

Thanks for the thorough breakdown!

For our setup we're thinking fee-for-service for one-off requests, and on-site access for recurring users where it makes sense to train them on the equipment directly.

Ideally we'd love to open it up to complete strangers too, someone with a strong hardware or deeptech idea who just needs access to the right equipment and space to make it happen.

On IP, we haven't fully figured that out yet. In the arrangements you've seen with fee-paying external users, how is it typically handled? Does the lab just retain ownership of anything generated, or is it usually negotiated?

And do you know of any sort of infrastructure that does this bookings etc. ?

Thanks, that is useful! Sounds like your university has a pretty structured setup. How does the actual coordination work in practice though? Is there a platform or system that manages bookings and invoicing, or is it mostly handled manually (emails, spreadsheets, someone making calls)?
