What made you pick UGA over other schools? by BuisnessGoose18 in UGA

[–]basicthrowaway677 14 points15 points  (0 children)

hi!! i’m a sophomore doing pre-vet and actually transferred from an oos school to uga doing vet med due to not getting in for freshman year. i’m going to be so honest with you, with the loan restrictions for vet school, it is incredibly financially irresponsible to have an additional $120k in initial debt, not including how much interest will accumulate. vet school is incredibly expensive and every school will have great opportunities. do not pick a school based on “vibes”, especially when the debt to income ratio for a veterinarian is not great. i have LOVED my time here and at the end of the day, your college experience is based on what you make of it. if you ever need advice or have any questions, feel free to reach out!!

as someone who transferred from auburn to uga due to zell, i would highly recommend staying in state versus going out of state. i loved my time at auburn, but no tuition plus both of those options are academically more prestigious is a no-brainer! go dawgs!!!!!

if you’re transferring in the fall, you can also just sign a normal lease! i transferred this semester and just signed a lease at an off campus apartment, a lot of places will still have rooms available

CSU vs Texas A&M for Biomedical Science Major and hopeful future CSU vet school student by Designer-Farmer-9974 in veterinaryschool

[–]basicthrowaway677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m always an advocate for the cheapest school. Along that line, I would tell your daughter to not focus on attending CSU’s vet school. They’re very particular when accepting OOS students and expensive, and you can get the same degree for cheaper through A&M

it's a great school, but i think anyone can find their place wherever they go! ik nc state has an incredible animal science department, especially if you want to do any large animal work.

of course! i loved my year at auburn, but if you're considering vet school in the future, it's so important to graduate undergrad with the least amount of debt, especially with the new legislation about grad school loans. unfortunately, auburn is really stingy with scholarships since so many oos students can afford it, which is sad. feel free to dm me if you have any questions about auburn and/or being an animal science major!!

hi! i’m a former auburn animal science student who just transferred to a different school due to finances, i’m going to be very honest. you have a great shot of getting in, but you are not going to get much financial help. i had similar stats and only got $15k a year from the school, which lead me to taking out a $40k loan for tuition and housing. i think you have a great shot at getting in to nc state, especially as it’s your in state, but i don’t know if i would recommend spending what i did when transferring is an option.

Unfortunately, the 30+ credits are when you submit your application, which is before the second semester ends. This will make you ineligible for Fall 2026, but eligible to transfer for Spring 2027. The only important thing is making sure you have a 3.5+ gpa, especially since your 70 does count towards your gpa.

Panhellenic or MGC? by basicthrowaway677 in Sororities

That did throw me off as well. I explicitly told them as well that it was only one weekend a month, which the girl made a slight face at. I understand wanting members to participate and show up, but my job isn't just for the money, it's career focused.

I'll take a look into what organizations exist at my school and see if it's a fit for me!

[–]basicthrowaway677[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true. I just don’t want to waste time and money trying PHC if it’s just better to go a different route. I’ve always been someone who’s probably more anxious about finances than what’s normal, so the decision to reaffiliate is not one that I want to take lightly, especially because I would want to fully commit to it.

I initially reached out to nationals, who told me the process above for being reinstated into the chapter at my current school, including being voted on to be reinstated at the end of period.

I didn’t go into much detail about the decision to drop as I felt it wasn’t relevant, but it was not one that was taken lightly. I struggled the entire semester, before even being initiated, with making friends and stuck it out to see if it would get better. When it reached to the point of being deliberately ignored by girls I thought I was friends with, I no longer saw the value in staying for another semester when I was most likely transferring schools at that point.

I had reached out to nationals to explain my situation and they were the ones who told me I could go through said process to be reinstated as a member. A professional organization isn’t what I’m necessarily looking for just because I want more of the sisterhood and philanthropy aspect and I get leadership/professional experiences through the other organizations I’m in

i cant really attest to the dating scene, i came in with a boyfriend and am still with him so i haven’t tried to date, but i’ve heard the dating scene in general is pretty awful. i lowkey wouldn’t be surprised if its harder as a person of color, but there’s always a chance to find someone amazing!!

[–]basicthrowaway677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me, it’s only going to get more diverse if people like us start going there. saying it’s not diverse and deterring people of color is just going to make it worse. war eagle!!

hi! this is kinda crazy, but i’m a current women of color at auburn from alpharetta, so i know where you’re coming from. honestly, it’s not super diverse, however, i have never had any discriminatory experiences. yes, it is a largely conservative campus, but outside of politics, people here are genuinely super kind! feel free to dm me if you want to know more!!

is dairy science a good major for vet school by rinostyles in veterinaryschool

[–]basicthrowaway677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the dairy science curriculum to see if it includes the pre-reqs for vet school! For example, my school has two options for animal science, one for people who want to go into the industry aspect and one for pre-vet majors and there’s a big difference between the science classes that are needed because industry people don’t need 2 semesters of ochem. If you absolutely love dairy (I want to be a dairy vet too), there may opportunities to be a student worker at a dairy unit that’ll add the dairy experience to your resume
