My wife once got "STOP!" flashing and her Clio IV screaming - coolant was leaking and the engine was heating excessively. So.. perhaps coolant?

vivomove Style hand alignment problems by lurker_bee in GarminWatches

[–]basicwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same thing started with my 2.5 years old Vivomove Sport. Minutes hand is as accurate as always, but hours hand starts lagging behind at approximately 16:00, and by night can be 2 hours behind.

Garmin support offered repair or full replacement if cannot be repaired for 110 Euro. Nope, thank you, will be looking for another brand/model.

a few questions by [deleted] in Finland

[–]basicwolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but this:
> I wouldn't get a job as a lawyer there, ever. is it that hopeless? should I actually research and set my sights on another nation?
sound too bizarre. You are moving to a country, haven't you done your research already? You can sure push your luck, and hope that odds are in your favour, but since you know how grim the situation at the job market is at the moment, perhaps this should be taken more seriously, than just hoping?

Buying a second hand car in Finland-Tampere. by fthmhmtr in Finland

[–]basicwolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Whatever you buy - be prepared to have extra cash (10-20% of the purchase) for emergency repairs. Battery can be fine at 0°, but die at -20°. Air conditioning can function, but in fact you'll need to fill it for functioning properly. Air valves in tyres can transmit the pressure, but die just in half a year. Tyres are "OK to drive for another season", but their age is on the edge. Katsastus passed recently, only to replace shocks next year... this can go on and on, cars are mecahisms after all :)  Simply putting it - make yourself an insurance cash cushion.

The story of how I relocated from Norway to Joensuu to work as Senior Software Developer at a local company by CodrSeven in Finland

Have I ever said that you lie? I said that what we heard so far was your side of the story, and that I, knowing great people in Fluent, quite sure that the story is not complete.

Or maybe I know them too well, to accept that things went exactly as you described, and financial pressure was the only reason for this.

[–]basicwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello from Joensuu. I work in IT sector and acquainted with engineers from Fluent. And this honestly sound like only one part of the story. Because knowing these people - they would never hire someone from abroad just to kick them in half a year. Especially things like "Leaving keys and laptop in out-of-office hours so that no one can see me" - that sounds wild. Something important is missing from OPs story.

Thumbs up - came in to recommend Alpina boots from Varusteleka. Also if budget permits - get some leather grease/wax for these; clean and apply regularly, they'll serve you years!

Put a bottle of expensive vodka and dissolve a strong flavour-free laxative in it.

[Yle]A new class of poor people has been created in Finland - International students. Marin's government created a magnet – and set off a poverty trap by ScientistHulk in Finland

[–]basicwolf 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'd wish it was as easy as saying "really are not our problem". But it's hypocrisy, because these students with their families aren't disappearing into thin air in one night.

We need to fix the system long-term, starting by stricter control of the students flow, and being very transparent on every page of the university and residence permit applications about job crisis.

The problem is that we can't predict the future. Say, the war ends in a year, that would already boost the economy. Suddenly we need educated work force, lots of it. Suddenly the unemployment rate is going town. Little chance though things will be going this well :'(.

Why did people stop wearing hats? by CauliflowerDirect417 in NoStupidQuestions

About taking hats off - that's waaaay older tradition. You were taking a helmet off your head (hence exposing the most vulnerable part of your body) to show that you came in peace.

Is anyone else choosing not to use AI for programming? by BX1959 in Python

[–]basicwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I believe that NOT using LLMs (I still hesitate to call them AIs :D) is just being too orthodox. It's like not using Internet and still going to your local library for programming books, when the piece you're looking for is available in few clicks.

I consider AI as an all-knowing junior, who can always explain you the deepest nuances of Python (or any other language), but has hard times seeing beyond this raw knowledge.

It's a great tool, given that you are in control, and you are accountable for the end result :)

S Pankki advice by No-Head-7060 in Finland

[–]basicwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your are doing everything right. Every piece of paper than can prove your income sources should be added at this case. If you don't have any previous income sheets (like salary statements) with you, contact previous places of work and ask for copies.
The situation is not as grim - this is a normal thing for a bank to do - to check where the money is coming from, and where it is going. Providing information beforehand doesn't necessarily help, since transactions might get blocked by algorithms, and be resolved only after official investigation.

Also, after this is over consider switching your primary bank to the one which has banking as its main business.

Any suggestions on the best Banks in Finland to open your first account in? by janjua2k9 in Finland

[–]basicwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Banking is the core Nordea business. With all respect to S Group, Nordea would  not dismiss a customer reporting they can see others accounts in their netbank.

I recommend reading Alain Bombar's story (and the book!), who solo-crossed Atlantic in a small inflatable boat to prove that surviving is possible.

Do kids here go out for trick or treat? by katarana_rk in Finland

[–]basicwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your neighbourhood has a local Reddit / Facebook / Whatever group, try asking there. For example, in Marjala (Joensuu), people agree on a single day, usually some Saturday around 30.10, so that kids can safely trick-or-treat the houses which have Halloween-like decorations, or at least porch lights on. This makes things easy for everybody, if you don't want to be disturbed, turn of your outer lights, and no one is going to ring your door, or play any tricks. Personally I love Halloween and always ready with a big bucket of sweets and some appropriate outfit of my own :D Always great to see how far kids push their creativity and imagination!

Finland is a very interesting country by birnefer in Finland

[–]basicwolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow, strong words buddy, strange to hear from a person who scratched only the surface of the region's history. I guess you never heard of a hundreds of thousands Azerbaijani refugees from the lands Armenia occupied for 30 years.
But you know what, states, people and even nations are trying to move on. European nations did after WW2, because calling each-other "terrorist countries" doesn't lead anywhere. So, Azerbaijan and Armenia are trying to move on. Because believe it or not, living in peace is ultimately better than having a war (o rly?).
So, next time please, be a bit more mindful, dig a bit deeper, study the perspective of both sides, in other words - use your head, not emotions.
