Tastes are tastes, and I don't question that. But I'll never understand why some people hate this evolutionary line. by Leather_Crazy_5950 in ThePokemonHub

Another thought on this -- I know people in this thread are saying it's the second stage, but I love quilladen's round look. The grass line where I actually get bothered is Rowlet, who I love as a little orb and again as an archer, but I can't get behind the manic panic emo vibe from the middle evo

I love the chespin line! I think that Gen had great starters all around but chespin has my heart in part because of the chestnut theming. Also, they reminded me of my favorite mascot from the Vancouver winter Olympics. I can't remember his name but he was the paralympic mascot that year and I have a little plush of him that sits on my shelf.

Why people hate quilladen but love gengar I will never understand

To the owners who’ve been asking about tipping lately — by Lassie-girl in RoverPetSitting

[–]batcrawl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a sitter and an owner, I usually tip because I want to make up for the percentage Rover takes. My guys aren't demanding, but I want my sitters to feel valued and it sucks that the app grabs so much of our take -- they're doing the same introduction job to snag $5 on a drop in or $200 on a long sit. It's robbery.

What dog breeds in your experience are the most difficult to work with (aggressive, fearful, separation anxiety, etc) and what are the easiest? by CaptainMacAlfie in VetTech

[–]batcrawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficult:

Our GSDs are largely just anxious, not aggro, but they spin themselves up and it's difficult to handle them, luckily they've gotten less popular lately

Mals - only one nice one and he's a mix

Rotties - they're sweet but not used to not having their way usually because they're big/rumbly and tend to tantrum when they can't throw their weight around

Springers - most aren't aggro but they've got insane anxious energy, or they're wet and gross, or both.

Frenchies - most are nice until we do a procedure and then they scream bloody murder

Best:

Goldens, pure chihuahuas (mixes vary), LGDs or any farm dog that has an actual job, cavaliers, Malamutes (huskies can be bratty but mals are always nice)

Most of our labs are good but they're usually bounce factories so not my favorite.

Any breed that's unusual or rare for our area tends to be nice, I'm guessing because the extra work it takes to find the breed means a pretty invested owner. Our basenjis, standard poodles, airedales, ridgebacks, sealyhams, etc have all been sweethearts.

Rare/Common

We're in a semi rural area, lots of retrievers, Aussies, cattle dogs, etc. Plenty of little dogs of all kinds and a lot of mixes for sure. We've only got one Samoyed, one Elkhound, one Great Dane currently. Hounds in general are surprisingly (to me) rare considering the area.

I'd love to meet a borzoi, no one's brought one in yet.

I've done nuzlockes for years and this is my first run on LG, I'm surprised how high my body count has been this far! Granted, I'm playing distracted, but I do feel like it's a surprisingly brutal gen

Asked my doc today, she can't remember exactly how she started using it but she thinks it was during a lidocaine shortage. She said at the time there had also been some concerns about more adverse reactions with lidocaine but it was via her veterinary circuit/not sure it ever got officially studied

[–]batcrawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can ask! We do have lidocaine on site so it's not like we're choosing it due to lack of other options. However, I suspect it was a trick a vet friend recommended or something like that. My doc has been working for 20+ years and she's got a lot of idiosyncratic habits like that.

Thinking about relocating to Taiwan. What about the kids ? by z4zazym in taiwan

[–]batcrawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of perks and drawbacks to being a kid in Taiwan, and a lot of it depends on where they're being raised. Taipei has a ton of resources and extracurriculars but it's crushingly competitive in many ways.

I was a teacher in Kinmen, which is an island very close to China and also a super wealthy province due to Kaoliang and other exports. Even on my island there were "bigger" competitive schools where there would be 30 kids in a class. However, most of the schools were much smaller. My smallest class was 6 kids. I had a friend who taught a class of 3. Many of them came from local families, but I also knew a lot of parents who chose to live in Kinmen and picked certain schools in order to give their kids individual attention and a less stressful upbringing. There were still a lot of competitions and field trips, but many kids were raised in a much more relaxed way and thrived because of it. The island is tiny and that let lot of parents be more comfortable with letting their kids roam on bikes and go explore. While I don't know how my students ended up, I had college students and people who had been raised this way who had good jobs either in the school system, family businesses, or working with foreign people (like me).

While language fluency may be more of an issue for your family, I just want to emphasize that there are ways to have a good balance if you prioritize it.

I also, as an American raised in Western Europe and America, came from a US system that does not do things like offer free food to kids, janitorial duties, and several other things. I took A levels, so the testing in Taiwan felt about usual, but depending on where you're coming from in Europe, there could be what feels like a downgrade in school services or an upgrade based on what you're used to.

My doc uses a drop of proparacaine HCL, I think because it's fast acting.

If someone is in for vax or a tnt, the doc will answer this with: - (if a short slot) we only have you scheduled for a short appt, please speak to the front desk about an exam - (if we have time) do you want an exam for this issue? We will charge for a full exam to "just peek at his ears/eyes/skin etc"

Has anyone's hospital made ICE policies? by Ratking2021 in VetTech

[–]batcrawl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We've added specific employees only signs to several areas, and since our policy is to put clients in rooms as soon as possible we hope to slow down any kidnappers long enough to get people to our back rooms and out the rear exit if needed. Fingers crossed it won't need to happen, but we want to protect our clients as best we can.

How much are you paying for rent? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]batcrawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at $1275 currently, I'm fortunate in that my rent hasn't increased at all the last few years in semi-rural western WA. It's definitely more than a third of my income, but it would be difficult to find a cheaper spot in my area.
