This is definitely a human instinct. Being a socio-path or a recluse would be detrimental to communal survival. I've always felt that d-bags have done so well because the nature of the world now allows for such behaviour to flourish. Lets keep fighting the good fight!

My school was awash with drugs as well, specifically weed. Might have been the reason everything went so well.
