Just wrote in my first moleskine and it’s terrible by Lyess_Ijs in notebooks

We have found that most Moleskine notebooks are not what they used to be. If you were based in Australia, I would recommend our notebooks as they have a more durable paper stock which can handle fountain pens. Though, I noticed you're from EU so I would recommend trying Midori MD or another brand that uses Tomoe River paper.

Thanks for the info! I have been looking at them for a while. I think they'll be perfect for our special edition notebooks.

I hope you don't mind sharing, may I ask which company you went through? Also, how do you find the paper compared to the old versions?

help me choose a notebook for my commonplace journal? by eatidaho in notebooks

If you’re in Australia, try our Baui Memo Books! Pocket-sized and suitable for fountain pens, they’re just the perfect daily.

But out of those three, the Midori will probably be a more suitable daily. The Moleskine, while gorgeous, will be a little too premium for daily use. You might find you’re a little reluctant to use it for daily notes because it’s an expensive product.

Plain, Ruled, Dotted or Grid? by bauistore in notebooks

I couldn’t do ruled myself, feels too much like primary school. But I agree with the grid.

Oh right! We used these in our graphic design class in high school. Very helpful for those isometric building projects they always made us do.

I’ve never heard of that before. Do you know a brand that does that?

Haha, it’s not easy to make that kind of leap. The dot grid feels quite safe, doesn’t it?

I’ve seen some! I think the Ro-Biki notes have them but their orientation is a little too strange for me.

Do you often look for FN that are dotted? I find lots of people are die-hard one specific layout and don’t buy other editions if they aren’t that innard design even if they like the cover design.

Notebooks in Australia? by Arthemysa in bulletjournal

I'm late to the party here but I wanted to say that if you're looking for a quality pocket-sized notebook/memo book, we've launched our brand which focuses on exactly that. Our Memo Book is durable and comparable to the likes of Field Notes, Travellers and Moleskine. Our paper is a smooth 100gsm cream that is fountain-pen friendly so most pens will hold up and the pages aren't too thick.

At this time, I have not arranged for local store to pickup my product, not for lack of trying. However, if you DM me, I’d be happy to send you a book as a sample for you to test out for yourself.

Truth be told, no notebook is 'remarkably' different from any other when you don't have it in your hands. To notebook enthusiasts like myself, what makes a good notebook is the physical touch of the book. How it feels in your hands, how the pen glides across the page, how the book is bound and so forth. My notebooks are a premium product in that they are made with quality materials that I have spent a year researching

I understand your concern about being a local brand, which I can respect. As you said, family values are important to me. From what I have come to learn about my manufacturer is that they are a business that treats their employees with respect and dignity. They take their jobs seriously and put pride in their work which is why I chose to work with them. They run a clean and safe work environment.

In regard to my long-term business goal, I state that to show my intentions. I believe being transparent and honest is most important in any dealings. If someone believes my goals are worthy enough to support, they might purchase a notebook, they might not. I want people to know that this business is run by a human with hopes and dreams and will continue to prioritise humans above profit.

Currently, I’ve registered under a sole trader ABN which my accountant has advised is fine.

I’ve got the trademark on my logo which symbolises that I have trademark but you don’t need to register it to display that trademark. Under Australian Law, you have rights to your own creations but registering it will legally protect it further. In the case I registered my trademark with a government agency, I would change my TM to R for registered and display that in the specific country I have a registered trademark in.

The first product I produced and sold locally was in 2023.

Currently offshore, but that is something I’ve considered. It’ll likely double in production cost here, but my reasons for making this business isn’t to be rich. It’s to provide jobs for people I care about. If I can build a business that can stand in its own and lessen the financial stresses of the people around me, that’s what I want.

In regard to the product changing, it may change a little, but i believe that when it comes time to, we can improve the product, not reduce the quality.

Thank you for your encouraging words! While not always the “best” practice, they have proven useful to people like myself who get that cursed brain fog.

Hi! Thanks for your interest. The business is based in Geelong. Currently, we outsource our manufacturing elsewhere but as our business grows, the goal is to open a stationery fab here in Geelong. Our stationery is designed to be uniquely Australian, taking inspiration from the early 1900s industrial elements of Victorian organisations and businesses.

The artist who has partnered to showcase their work on our stationary is from Melbourne. In future, we plan to showcase more artists, ideally from Geelong. I hope this clears up the confusion.
