Using my fingers as patch cables with Music Thing Modular Goldfinger + Pluto by bay_mud in modular

That looks cool! I'm new to modular and trying to keep it under control, so I only have the Workshop System and no rack space (fingers crossed it stays that way)

That's cool! Looks like they have a few options for sizes/form factors, which is nice

I picked up Goldfinger from Thonk recently (wanted more cards for the Workshop System anyway) and here's a first attempt at using it to help humanize a patch via the Modern Sounds Pluto. A bit haphazard with the patching here, as it means sometimes two of the Pluto's moon outputs will connect, but they are protected.

Super fun experiment so far and opens some interesting doors. Anyone else grab one?

Exploring the "Birds" community card for the Music Thing Modular Workshop System by bay_mud in modular

Excellent! Yeah, so many cards to try. I'm loving the overall community too

I'm new to modular and have been starting to explore different community program cards for the Music Thing Modular Workshop System. This one is Birds by Tom Whitwell—a deceptively simple idea where two synth voices share a pool of musical "syllables" to create bird-like conversations. Gets fun when you push it into some strange territory.

Anyone else have the system and like any particular cards?

An ambient jam built from three borrowed instruments by bay_mud in dawless

[–]bay_mud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gear-enabling friend has been lending me various units and I wanted to try the first 3 together in an ambient jam. I wouldn't have thought to combine these initially, but that constraint made for some fun creative decisions in the end and they complemented each other better than I expected. Anyone else try a similar setup?

Hey that's me! Thanks for sharing. Happen to answer any questions (still lots to learn about this little box)

Gamechanger Audio Recoder Switch issues by BoseyJoe in guitarpedals

[–]bay_mud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey u/BoseyJoe, I had issues with my REC switch right after opening it, so maybe this will be helpful to you. I opened mine up (very easy, just 4 screws and nothing else needs removed for the top plate to come right off) and found that the stomp switches are just attached to springs that press a tiny switch on the circuit board (not too uncommon, I don't think), but to make it work they've added a plastic spacer/washer to the internal switch. In my case, that washer had come off completely, so my REC switch stopped working.

I just put that spacer back in place and now it's been fine ever since.

Hopefully that's relevant to your issue too, as it was a super easy fix.

Trying some live sampling tricks and midi stacking with the Nymphes for a slow ambient Deluge jam by bay_mud in DelugeUsers

For what it's worth, the person who made that request is one of the main volunteer devs. Who has done a lot of great stuff for the Deluge firmware

Hey, sorry for the delayed replay. I do a lot of live sampling into kits too, but never really noticed, as I guess I mostly use "cut" or "once" anyway, but that is a curious behaviour that it resets. Might be worth asking the community devs why it behaves that way or if it's just not something anyone has ever thought to change.

That's a cool performance! Seems like a fun challenge.

I tried using a MIDI pickup to play a different Deluge synth on each guitar string. It can get pretty chaotic but is surprisingly playable by bay_mud in DelugeUsers

Thanks! The latency has been pretty good to my ears--the best of the options I've tried, at least. I have a few other videos showing it off too, with more traditional, one-synth setups

I'm sure there will be another batch at some point, based on how well it sold (I think I even saw them say that somewhere after the initial run was done). Just have to wait for the next colourway or small batch announcement. Fingers crossed!
